Home made camera awesomeness - Bellflower

Not so much a homemade camera as a homemade large-format groundglass lens adapter in front of an SI2k camera.

The story doesn't mention the brains of the camera - the SI2k (the worst camera I've ever had to use, btw) needs to be tethered to a computer via gigabit ethernet to work, and then a video signal must be fed back to the camera for a viewfinder or monitor. It's a cumbersome umbilical that the camera cannot work without.

I'm sure the bellows and large format groundglass can make some interesting shots, but what a fiddly nightmare to deal with. I'm sure glad I wasn't involved with that shoot. I didn't see anything in the trailer that couldn't have been done with any super35 sensor camera, but I didn't see the whole film.

I like this quote: "shooting this way may have made our production last twice as long and be twice as trying," Glodell admits.

I guess it got his film noticed. I wonder if the film is any good.

Interesting nonetheless, thanks for sharing :)

saw this film last night - loved it, am surprised theres not another thread on this film considering the main guy Evan Glodell wrote directed starred and as mentioned created his own "frankensteined" (is that a word?) camera - it definitely gave the film a distinctive grungy unique look - dirty ground glass giving the image a Madmax style, as intended it seems.....the look is not for everyone or the purists but it did fit the mood and atmosphere of the film perfectly

Interesting and original film in its own right, Evan Glodell is a talent worth keeping an eye on....at first i was finding the look of the film a bit distracting but slowly the story sucked me in & won me over and as i say, can't imagine it looking any other way. Worth a watch I reckon

I've used 4 SI2K's in planes... of course with the body... worked great for us... but then I was the producer not the dp... the only real issue we had was the fact that the first AC set it up to record uncompressed... so the first day we ate through hard drives...

Also Bellflower did get a small run at the theaters... missed it when it was in my area...
