Holy crap!!!

Re: Holy crap!!!

Yeah... I have been watching Matt and his works for a while now... (a few months) then there was a coming together of the other two (just as talented) directors. I am in shock and awe. I teach and deal with youth who want to get into filmmaking and I must say, they do have the ingredients for great (digital or otherwise) filmmakers. There was a thread here once that was focus on Matt's work and it just blew a lot of folks away.

Re: Holy crap!!!

Check out RICH LEE's work as well. There are a few dudes representing the DVX Nation nicely.

Re: Holy crap!!!

Anyone know how much of this incredible footage was shot with the DVX100? I hate it when you think that its DVX footage and get excited and it turns out to be film or shot with a $60,000 camcorder. ya know?

Re: Holy crap!!!

I agree. I can't see my shots ever looking like what I saw here. I now that there was color correction but, damn that looked awesome.

Re: Holy crap!!!

I dont think they were ALL dvx............some of them are lower quality cams like XL!

If you look further on their site, the three filmmakers say that all of their work was produced on low-priced prosumer cameras (XL1, Sony VX2000, DVX100), and they used After Effects for post.

Now's the time to get back in the trenches and tighten up those skills!

Re: Holy crap!!!

dont get me wrong, they got there **** down, but the only thing i didnt like was that after watching a few videos, it was like watching them all. I tend to like videos that make you think a little or try something new, but thats just me. Seeing as how these guys young, they got a pretty good start and i'm sure will go far.

Re: Holy crap!!!

Watson,

Yeah, I agree a bit on the content. They seem to think that "controversial" is a selling point, which to some degree, it is. However, most of the controversial stuff I've seen that they've done just means half-naked chicks and lots of violence.

I AM astounded at their technical prowess, and I liked the commercials they did. But I saw a few shorts, such as the one about the gang fight in the high school shower room, and it just seemed overtly violent and without point. I was waiting for the "thesis statement", such as "this is happening right now somewhere, you have a choice... blah blah blah", and there wasn't one.

I would like to see what they can do with a good script. They've really got me excited to make some films, though. If they can do it, why can't we?

Re: Holy crap!!!

FILMMAKERS? i didnt see any film. Digitalmakers. It's great that they make that stuff in digital. But film. Digital is not film and making a digital video and making a film are 2 different things. Put the filters on your digital videos. It's nothing compared to the real deal. And im not saying those videos are not good, there really amazing but not filmmakers.

Re: Holy crap!!!

Jonwolf,

By "filmmaker" I mean someone making movies. And to say that a filmmaker can only be applied to those who actually shoot on film is absurd. There is a ton of fantastic and pro-level stuff being shot on digital video. The medium has nothing to do with it, only what the "creator" is able to do. What about all the features shot on digital, such as Peter Hedges ' Pieces of April, 28 Days Later, Soderburgh's Full Frontal or Rebecca Miller's Personal Velocity? Apparently, the pros are seeing the possibilities of DV also.

Personally, I think the guys at digitalinterface.net have a lot of talent, and I would easily classify them as "filmmakers". They are making movies or "films" (if you want to get all technical about it) that are well-thought out, even if they seem to only dabble in the dark, hopeless side of life.

That would be my one complaint about them. Most of their films depict some horrific event, and don't really make a point. One involves a videotaped gang rape, then the victim sees herself raped on video, then slits her wrists and dies. ???? Another film depicts one boy beating the living sh-- out of another kid in a high school bathroom, with other boys watching. He goes so far as to kill the kid, turns to the others, says "What?", then leaves. End.

Frankly, it's depressing stuff. I appreciate the technical side of their work, but I don't enjoy watching it. Maybe if they tried something that didn't always involve suicide, car accidents, senseless beatings, rapings and rampant drug abuse, I'd enjoy it. Or at least something with a smidgen of hope. Who knows.
