WOW WOW WOW I am eating my words about the mysterium X versus the 7D, download this footage 2000 ISO with nothing but a Key light and a match... holy sh*t this is amazing looks like the 7D is gonna hit the road... sorry 7D I still love you.

This has been discussed since the stills came out. Even before that, when people tried comparing the $1,800 7D to a $30,000+ Red System. Should be self-explanatory at some point when your camera is cheaper than the other camera's mattebox. The MX sensor greatly improves on that note at a much lower price.

This is what you get when you devote resources into creating cost-effective video solutions...Canon? are you watching this? is your ego bruised at all? I hope so...

7D is still beyond phenominal for what it is.

One is a really high end camera system for cinematic purposes. One is a still SLR with a decent video function built in. Really, why is anyone surprised by things like this?

I think the only reason why Mysterium X is this good at low light is because of the canon 5D II. Once the 5d came out, Red pushed back everything by years, including totally changing what the scarlet is.
So I think all us future red users have a lot to thank Canon for.

The 5DII sensor could produce far superior video if Canon wants it to. Just up to Canon if they want to unleash its full potential.

If you can afford a RED why not keep the 7D too? I think the mysterium X will be a pain to use sometimes. Having a smaller camera might come in handy for some things.
For people doing wedding, journalist, video for the web, low budget filmmakers the smaller DSLRs will be good.

Must be some secret link hidden somewhere in this thread...clicking everywhere but still haven't found it. The OP is very clever.

For Perry...

I had my 7D while we were shooting this M-X footage. I think I shot maybe two or three minutes with it side by side with the RED and then just put it back in my bookbag. Even in situations where there's moderate light the 7D simply cannot hang. Most of the material in that video is shot at 800 - 1000 ISO, the very last shot is at... 1600 ISO... and it's incredibly clean.

The 7D is what it is... a neat way to acquire an image on a budget. Hopefully people will stop comparing DSLRs to RED, now, and just use them as what they are.

hey thanks kholi do you have any of the 7D footage? Congrats on getting the MX back How amazing is it? Now is that MX you have the same as the S35 MX or the 2/3 MX? I am now interested in the Fixed I just hope I wont miss out on too much DOF switch from APS-C to 2/3... what do you think also do you think the DOF is going to look closer to the 7D in the interchangeable 2/3 compared to the fixed 2/3

I'm selling some of my DSLRs asap. Trying to decide what to keep.

I can see if I have anything worth posting but I highly doubt it. Will check though.

As far as Mysterium-X goes, it's the S35-sized MX. Nobody really knows how close the 2/3 Mysterium-X will perform but I'd wager close enough to be considered. Does anyone know if the 2/3" M-X Sensor is actually 2/3" or slightly larger? You'll get plenty of DOF but FOV is another story, that's the only thing I'd be missing. Your widest lens will need to be something like an 8MM!!!! So, there are some disadvantages, but the image clarity just won't be in the same league.

2/3rds will be at 2/3rd according to what I read from the Red team. Slumdog, Revenge of the Sith were shot on 2/3rd. It can be done. I'd hate to see beginner filmmakers pass up the opportunity because they wont get anything below S35
