HMC4x-max. functional size of SDHC card? really only 32GB?

Hello again,
I know that in AG-HMC4x manuals are always infos about max. SDHC card´s size 32GB. Probably due to some FAT32 filesystem limitations on SDHC cards (but for me as a little IT it´s still not fully understandable because FAT32 real limitations are well beyond 32GB). AG-HMC4x doesn´t support newest SDXC cards I know too :-)

I use only 16GB SDHC and want to maximize record capacity for at least 64GB.

Even if 64GB and bigger SD capacities are domain of SDXC card, not SDHC, there are still some manufacturers which make 64GB SDHC not XC. So question is - does somebody of you use AG-HMC4x successfully with more than 32GB? If so tell me please of what type of SD card?

I would appreciate any help with this almost stupid question:-)

Hi C

Nope, you can only use a 32GB card as the 40 and 80 series only support SDHC ....the replacement for the HMC40 will be the AC-90 (supposedly coming out next month or so) and that can use SDXC cards and has dual slots. Even in PH mode the 40 will give you over 3 hours on a 32GB card ...any more than that and you should really use a digital recorder .... What do you need to record that requires the cam to run non-stop for over 3 hours??? as you also need to think about how you will also power the camera?

corrections... SDHC 64GB no longer exist? Only in SDXC formats?

Well, the real reason why I´d like to make longer record than 3h. is necessity to record special gatherings of my employer which often takes really more than 3h... I´d like to avoid speaking about detailed reasons why, it´s a very strange group of rather VIP people...and yes, as an ordinary employee I´m not satisfied when my hard work ends often after more than 12hours a day...but it´s really another story not for this forum, I apologize... :+)

Battery life is not so critical for me because nowadays my HCM4x has the most powerfull Pan. battery which allows me to record more than 6hours and to non-record about 7hours (nevertheless still less than Panasonic´s proclamation of 8hours, probably due to battery life and some connected external devices-ext.mic into my HMC).

So it would be fine for me to be able to record more than 3hours to catch the most crucial, important and often delicate parts of my employer´s orders. I know well that in manuals it was said that HMC4x could max. record only to SDHC 32GB. I know it guys! :-) But really another story could be if it would be possible to buy SDHC 64GB and insert it into HMC4x.
But! I must correct myself... many worldwide e-shops have still wrong descriptions on their new SDXC 64GB and bigger cards proclaimed that they are the "older" SDHC ones... :-( Terrible. So it was probably technologically impossible to produce 1 final-step-ahead bigger SDHC card of 64GB size without necessity to move on the new SDXC HW standards really incompatible with HMC4x...

Well, maybe I'm being overly simplistic, but you could try one of the lower bitrate recording modes to fit more footage on a card. That's what they're there for, after all. If your shots don't have much movement, the diffence is quality would probably not be that noticiable.
