Like Shug, I use the AT875R hooked into the Panasonic XLR adapter. It is a nice mic, but I get the best out of it (like with any mic) when I have it separately mounted from the camera.
Having said that, the AT875R has a pretty tight focus and reasonably good range. Mounted on the camera, I have picked up generally clean audio (with mild wind) at 5-6 feet outdoors.
