HMC150 vs. HVX200

Okay, here it goes. I suppose I'm not a particularly educated man on this subject, I've read up a bit and still don't quite "get it", so mi amigos, help me out:

What is the difference(/point-of-the-HMC150) between the HVX200 and soon to be sold HMC150? From what I've read online the HMC150 may be selling for just under 6K (approximately the same cost of the HVX200), I'm simply wondering what it offers that, well, gives it a reason to exist.

Help me out here. Thanks.
 
It's not going to be anywhere near that expensive. The HMC150 is designed to replace the DVX (this comes directly from Jan), so expect the price to reflect that. I'd imagine it'll be somewhere in the $3500-4000 range (if I had to guess).
 
What you've read is nonsense, the HMC150 will probably be more like $3000 to $4000, not $6000! If it was $6,000 there would indeed be little reason for something like that to exist.

The HMC150 is a replacement for the DVX100. Its main thing is that it records to cheap commodity media, not P2 cards. You can buy SD cards over the counter at Best Buy or Walgreens. And with its variable bitrate capability you can record for very long times; using a 32GB card it could record for up to 12 hours.

It's a high-def DVX.
 
Okay, so aside from the price, does anyone know if there'd be any difference in features? What I'm asking is if one could purchase EITHER an HMC150 OR a HVX200, which is the better choice all around? Or is there not enough info out there yet on the HMC to know? In my opinion the HVX is basically a hi-def DVX, so aside from the cost, what I'm really asking is what is the point of the HMC? Is it really just the move away from P2 cards?
 
Almost undoubtedly the HVX would be the better buy, as it's going to still be $2,000 more expensive (if $3999 guesses are right).

The point of the HMC is low cost. I really don't know how to say that any differently. The HMC will be priced comparably to a DVX. For a lot of people, an extra $2,000 or $3,000 makes a real difference, y'know? Furthermore, the recording media will be much less expensive.

The point of the HMC150 is to lower the cost of entry.

2-3 thousand is a big difference for me. plus sd cards are a lot cheaper than p2.
 
Still wanna know about this "new" 1/3" CCD thing. Maybe it was just termed new in general?

Also, consider that it looks like it's going to be a 1080p Frame. =\ I'd sure like to have that.
 
A major difference between the two is that one exists today and is available whereas the other does not.

These threads are inevitable but why don't we wait until we see it available for retail purchase or see some footage... then again, as the successor to the DVX it should be an amazing camera

From what I'm reading this is the BIG difference that makes the HMC150 much more than just a DVX100 "upgrade" - it's using 16x9 chips, the same new improved ones as the new P2 cameras, 200A or the 170. This is a LEAP from the DVX 4x3 chips right?

Ordered mine today!
 
I agree with Jeremy it's all inevitable! But w/e... I think that the 150 is going to be up there with the 200. As for price it doesn't matter because i still can't afford to buy any of these cameras =p
