HMC150 true 1080 ???

The AVC-HD recording format that it uses records a true 1920x1080 at 24P, 30P, or 60i. No pulldown, no prefiltering, no anything, just 1920x1080 full-raster recording.

Thanks Barry,

For resolution (sharper images), it should be better than HVX 1080i ?

Don't know, we'll have to see. There are so many things that go into the final image, you can never just grab hold of any one particular aspect and think that it's going to make a huge difference. It's all about how all the items work together that matters. But, soon enough we'll be able to find out.

So AVCHD(for the HMC150) is full raster 1920x1080 and also 1280x720, whereas DVCPROHD is 1280x1080 and 960x720?

Yes, although in 1080 PAL, DVCPROHD is 1440x1080. The difference in sharpness is really only noticeable in 720p (where avchd will also get its best performance). The 6Mbps mode on the 150 also uses 1440x1080.

That criticism is not applicable to the HMC150 at all. Besides being a consumer camera, that Canon reviewed uses much lower bandwidth AVCHD. A more valid assessment would be the HF11 which uses Canon's attempt at 24Mbps AVCHD and reviewed much better. But as mentioned above, these are $1000 cameras that are not at all in the same class as the HMC... sensor, codec or optics.
