HMC150 or HMC151 Technical

Hi guys.

I am new to the site and have a couple of questions regarding the Panasonic HMC150. I am thinking of buying the HMC150 from the USA as I visit every few months (from the UK). USA runs with 60Hz, (UK 50Hz). How does this affect the use of the camcorder in the UK?

HMC150 is NSTC (USA), and PAL in the UK. Will the camcorder still function correctly>
The European version is the HMC151, but this is much more expensive in the UK. Can anyone offer any advice

It shouldn't be a question of the camcorder functioning properly. It will function fine no matter where it is in the world. What you have to worry about is if your footage is going to be broadcast, then you would have to adhere to the broadcast standards (wether it be NTSC or PAL.) But as far as editing and displaying on your computer you should be absolutely fine.

Many thanks for your quick reply. Forgive me for being a little stupid but if I record in the UK and edit onto dvd, all should be ok on UK TV system?

All is forgiven but you will probaly want a UK or european version.
If UK broadcasts Pal its best to shoot Pal .
And the warranty ofcourse , if something may ever happen you dont need to ship it all the way to the US of A. It will be easier to do it in Bloody old Englund....I always wanted to say that no pun intended .

Shooting 24p NTSC converts OK over to 25p Pal. But when you get to 60i or 50i and 60p or 50p will look a lot worse if you try and convert.

Its going to be fine on your computer, just maters what DVD player and TV you are going to use view after editing. That's what most people try to match.

Thanks for your comments. It looks as though I will have to buy in the UK. We are being ripped off in Europe for the same camera. Best price USA is £1800 (UK pounds), best price in the UK is £2900 (UK pounds). That is a colossal difference in taxes. Never mind. What a great site this is. Many thanks to all

It is not exactly the same camera as the 151 can shoot in both standard ie. it can be swithed from UK to US standard but the 150 is US standard only.

I know this is just software but it does have a value.

Everything high tech seems to be more expensive in the UK, just take a look at Adobe software for example.

Regards,
Ken

There's a huge difference between the UK HMC151E and the USA version HMC150 -- the 151E shoots both PAL and NTSC. If you travel back and forth, that can be a signficant benefit.
