HMC150 Operation Time?

So I am thinking of selling my HMC150. I went to check the camera operation time and it says 22140 hrs! If you convert that to days, that means it has an operation time of 922.5 days, or 2.527 years!

I bought this camera second hand. So I guess if the previous owner recorded video continuously from the date the camera was released in the fall of 2008 until when I bought it in March of 2009, without ever turning it off, then this would be possible. But there is no way there is that much wear on it. Does anyone know why this number could be that high?

The manual states this is the "power on" time, not recording time. Still, it sounds like an error. My camera says "72 hours".

I saw an HMC151 for sale on ebay a few months ago. It was being sold by an English University and had 17,000 hours on the clock !
I emailed them to confirm the hours usage was correct and they assured me it was.
They said it was still working perfectly and it sold on ebay for £1100.

I sold my camera to someone on here, and it had a faulty hour meter, I had only had it for a few months, and it said it had been on for a year.

Thanks that makes me feel better. It literally would have to have been plugged in non-stop for 2 1/2 years. I bought the camera a year ago with moderate use and the camera's 4 year release date anniversary is in the fall.

I had the same issue, 18,000 hours on the meter of a 2 year old camera. I took it in and it was fixed, but unfortunately they have to reset it to zero. That means buyer beware on the used market, as the original hours can't be traced easily if the camera had been serviced.

I have the same problem, and John's point is well taken. I am going to put my camera up for sale in two weeks and can't decide whether to have it reset or not. I am of the feeling that I will leave it up to the person who buys the camera. It certainly would have made a difference in the drum/head days but in reality not much these days. I will miss my HMC 150 when it goes, damn great camera!

That's so true. My previous cameras were Sony VX2000's/VX2100's. I had three of them and each one needed the tape transport serviced/repaired after two or three years for around $400 a pop.

While I was initially vary on shooting on memory cards, I have never had a problem with my 150 and I'm going on three years with it. But most importantly, I won't be having to shell out any money for issues with moving parts.
