hmc150 hmc151 hmc152.... differences?

Yes, I would transcode AVCHD footage to a more editing friendly codec if you want to continue using CS4. The problems you are having with the GH1 footage are going to be the same with the HMC unless you transcode (convert to another codec) for editing. If you want to upgrade to CS5 then things apparently get much easier, but there is a cost involved in doing that.

You should also be transcoding your 60D footage too, because trying to edit (in CS4) with native AVCHD is going to drive you crazy.

what would you recommend transcoding to? and using what software?

The 720p footage from the GH1 crashes my pc instantly, I assume transcoding would be the answer here too?

This obviously adds a step to the workflow if I use these cam's to shoot weddings but I bet it doesnt take a long to transcode as it does to capture the footage in from tapes! i.e real time!

I have CS5 available to me at work and its great in terms of handling formats and especially the DSLR stuff but I just find it so laggy and slow compared to CS4 and especially (believe it or not) when compared to CS2!

There is also http://vimeo.com/Power variation to take into consideration. I live in Aus and because of the ridicules prices over here I’m going to get a 151 from the UK. I sent an e-mail to Panasonic in the UK and they told me that, providing I’m willing to send the camera back (at my own expense) then I will get the full 3 year warranty.

phil what sort of price were you quoted for the 151?

I haven’t got the Camera yet. I’m going to at the start of next year. I wasn’t quoted a price. I just went to panasonic-broadcast and looked at the Dealers they had links to. I thought this lot sounds good (unless somebody knows otherwise) creativevideo and camera (£2,325.00) panasonic_ag-hmc151 , that price is $3665AUS (I know I’ll have other charges when it gets to Aus but I don’t have to pay VAT)

In Australia they are asking $6000 (but that’s without haggling)
With that amount of difference, at let’s say $300 a round trip. I could send the camera back to the UK almost 8 times for warranty repair before I got to $6000. And its only PAL. Not an option of both.

In an e-mail the question I asked Panasonic-Broadcast was.

Question:
If I am willing to send the camera back to the UK at my own expense (Should something go wrong with it), could I still get the Extended 2 year Warranty?

Answer:
Hi Phil,

Yes that is correct, as long as you send the camera to the UK the extended warranty is still valid and we can carry out future optional repair as usual.
