hmc150=DEAD!!!! barry, if there was ever a time i needed you...now is the time!

so i was filming some skating today, it was fairly humid out, but nothing out of the ordinary. then i flipped open the LCD and see these images.....so i think its the ribbon cable is messed up/torn/crunched or something and i was like F***. my next instinct was to check the EVF. same story there. then i look at the footage.....and to my dismay, the footage was being recorded how it was shown on the lcd/evf. so i close up the camera, turn it off, and put a SH*T LOAD of silica gel packets all around it in a ziploc bag to try and dry up some of the moisture which i thought was the culprit. so i go back, turn in back on and it shows some image, but the overexposed areas are all funky and the underexposed area was a little weird.....i called panny, and they say i have to send it in for repair, but im EXTREMELY pissed because i am in the middle of shooting for a tv show and another project i am working on that is time sensitive. any suggestions on what the problem could be??!?! any help from barry to get my camera fixed in a timely manner? whats the best way to go about getting it repaired. any thoughts/concerns/advice/questions on whats wrong are welcome!!! thanks.

Last time I saw that was when my Fuji S2 Pro DSLR CCD died. Thankfully a known problem and Fuji fixed it FOC at the time.

The best thing to do it send it back to Panasonic and rent a camera to finish out the shoot you are doing right now.

FOC?

and i am hopefully going to get a loaner cam from panny and finish my shoot(s).

FOC=Free of Charge

Definitely send it back and rent to finish. See if Panny will repay you for the trouble of having to rent to finish a project. I don't know how they are about that stuff, but try what you can. I feel your pain man. Best of luck.

haha i realized that after i posted haha. but yea, hopefully panny will send me a loaner cam in the mean time rather than me renting out a camera around here.

Take those top two grabs and the bottom one. Have them blown up to 8 feet tall, then framed and installed at a local gallery. Attach an $80k price tag to each. Publicize and throw a big opening inviting the local media. Have some acquaintences show up and rave over the brilliance of the pieces. (Make sure they throw in words like juxtapose every once in a while.) Make sure one of the pieces has a sold tag next to the price. Very shortly thereafter, the other two will sell and you'll no longer feel so bad about your ailing camera.

This actually works, i've heard of this happening before, some crazy things get done in the art world.

You get a friend ( preferably a young women) and advertise an art showing at a local gallery making sure she's promoted as the next best artist in town, make a song and dance about the whole thing and have lots of friends come in and show interest. Have it advertised and get media along. Have someone you know come in and make a faux purchase on one of her paintings and place the "sold" sign on it,,,, soon enough, you get someone wanting to purchase another piece for real. Who say you have to work hard for your money??

I hope you cam gets well soon!

hahahaha. maybe ill do a casting call for a hot, persuasive girl.....although, i guess any girl in a bikini can be persuasive!!!!

How long have you had the camera? Might be best to get them to switch it out if possible and if you haven't had it that long. I use the argument that it can happen again and it's got mojo on it now and whatever.... squeaky wheel gets the grease kind of thing.

Yeah, no doubt that's a repair issue. As Justyn says, if you haven't had it long, I would ask them about an "initial failure" exchange where they should be able to get you a new one. Of course, if you've had it a few months, that won't fly, but if it's very new you might be able to get it exchanged for a new unit.

Ask your dealer as well.

Good luck!

will do. if the panasonic repair center ever answers their goddamn phone!!!! they say theyre open from 10 am -5 pm easter time, its now 11 and ive called multiple times and it took me about 3 hours yesterday to get this call.........right now....im not too happy with them

UPDATE 8/13/09:

Called panny today and got it all squared away.....Kind of.

i talked to a nice fellow named edward and he politely informed me that i had the wrong number, but he transfered me to the professional section of panny, he was super nice and willing to help. I get a hold of peggy really fast and ask her what needs to be done about it...she says i need the receipt and proof of purchase. she informs me a paypal receipt will suffice. so i then proceed asking her for a loaner camera or a replacement camera and she then, without hesitation says a flat out NO! I informed her that i had read multiple accounts of people getting rental cams for the inconvenience. she said this was false and that they must be lying....then i asked for what barry had mentioned: the initial failure schpeel. no dice on that one, she then proceeds to call the person who told me this was a complete idiot and has obviously never dealt with panasonic before and that it would take a few times on the bench before a camera was even considered to be eligible for a complete replacement. i didnt mind, considering she had told me the turn around time is about 3 days, thats not horrible, so i went out tonight and shipped my camera out with my paypal receipt and the pictures i posted printed out with an explanation of what happened along with my cell number, email address, and home return address. hopefully ill get it back in soon.

i told them that he was some how affiliated with panasonic, and i mentioned his name, but when she said he was a complete idiot, i said maybe i was wrong because i didnt want to give barry a bad name.

I thought the second to the last one seems like a neat special effect in a horror movie.

Hang in there. They'll get it back to you as good as new.
