HMC w/ Letus + Nikons FOOTAGE

Funny and technically well done video!
But the video is totally twisting the message: Not the honeybee is endangered, it rather could be the massive honey production itsself causing the problems like "native" bee colonys disappearing...

I was gonna say it looked over exposed...then I read your last comment. LOL What stabilizer did you use?

Am I the only one who thinks this does not look very good? This is a forum for amateurs, semi-pros and pros to donate their knowledge and critiques and it's a bit depressing sometimes how some vids can be so under or overrated. No offense at all, it is very funny conceptually; I didn't laugh but I appreciate the energy put into it....., first of all, I would never have thought this was done with an adapter. Also, it needs hardcore CC, and you could have used some reflectors to kill the shadows on some of their faces. Some shots are very very very overexposed. It has a very "basic settings" amateurish feel to it, although I do think huge effort was put into it and it had potential.

I'm only trying to be helpful.....I would want to hear the same criticisms trust me ;)

It's just that I see some really awesome videos on here sometimes which barely get a comment and then this video is discussed as if it were the new "Metropolis".

Respectfully,
David

What davidpula said ! I held my breath yesterday when I read hmc 150 and adapter but I was some what dissapointed.
It's way too soft or just out of focus and very overexposed. I think imagewise it destroyed what the HMC 150 can do with its own stock lens. And I dont mean that in a good way.
Use the zebra's and turn on some ND's next time.
And Im sure your message will be more pleasing imagewise next time around.

.....whatever helps the honey bee crisis, cause it's still very important.

I'm completely aware that it's on the crappier end of how the setup performs. The conditions were really harsh, and the time constraints didn't allow me to work it. I was directing and DP'ing, and we had to teach 25 non-actors/non-dancers how to do this dance on a hot, 95 degree summer day in California. We shot in the middle of the day too, without a cloud in sight. I was more concerned with getting the dance sequence and jokes on camera before the sun went down. We turned this puppy around in three weeks including production of the song. Shot in one six hour day, and put online a week later.

There are some images here and there that I really like, but all in all I had to sacrifice my desire to make something really pretty to get a fun and colorful video.

I'll be putting up a comedy short soon with some nice stuff; proper lighting, time spent setting up... proper CC.

For now, here are a couple more run-and-gun letus/HMC videos I shot of my brother performing covers:

I didnt think it was that bad. The over exposure on the coveralls was definitely a no-no and I dont see why you would want them to over expose?

Well, I would argue that there definitely is more discussion about "Metropolis" on the web, than a mere 7 posts... :2vrolijk_08:

Anyways, speaking of the various levels of "pro" here, anybody should know that you can´t compare apples to oranges - a run´n gun one-man-army shoot with 25(!) non actors simply cannot compare to the ambitious music videos people sometimes showcase here.
If your kid draws a picture of a horse that actually looks like an exploded elephant, you praise the effort and not compare it to a Rembrandt.
On the other hand, a lot of people here get orgasms, JUST BECAUSE sth is shot with an adapter or a certain HDSLR, no matter the content.
Again, this vid reminded me of a SDL spoof, not as perfect, but the overall impression was convincing.
(Just the message itself was a little twisted...)

Thanks matt s. and Spartacus.

@ matt s. — we wanted to overexpose for that cheesy rap blowout feel... probably would have been better to shoot it neutral and blast it in post.... but again, run and gun.

@ Spartacus — appreciate it. not quite sure what you mean by twisted message. but in reference to your earlier post: the point of the video is not to point out the cause of CCD, but rather to just raise awareness about the epidemic. the cause isn't mentioned at all.
