HMC-150 Using Premiere Pro?

Hey guys,

I have a friend who just got the Panny HMC-150. He's bringing it over to my
house today so I can check it out. I told him to bring some footage and his card
reader with him so we could hopefully fly it into my rig and see how it looks.

Question: Will my NLE (Premiere Pro CS4) read the native files for the HMC-150 like it
does with my .MFX files for my HPX-170? If not, then what third party software
is needed to convert it?

NOTE: I believe he's using Sony's Vegas as his NLE. I'm not sure how it works for him
either. Any thoughts on this as well?

Thanks.

Vegas 8 (I believe) and Vegas 9, Premiere 4.1 are capable of editing native mts files from the cam.

The real issue is the specs of your computer and GPU.

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply.

So the native mts files can be dropped right into PP like my .MFX files?

Great...

Mark

Right -- if you're using Premiere, make sure it's CS4 upgraded to version 4.1.

EDIUS and EDIUS Neo can also read native AVCHD files.

Vegas 9 is supposed to be quite a bit more compatible than Vegas 8; I have Vegas 8 and it seems to do fine but I think people have reported 720/60p not working well.

Premiere will work great with the files... Except that it will not read the Timecode (which bums me out).

If you buddy is brining a card with the footage on it, then just copy the COMPLETE file structure onto your HDD and then use Adobe's Media Browser to locate it. As soon as you click on the "PRIVATE" folder it will be recognized as AVCHD footage, and you can just import it all into your Scene Bin. Just give it a min or two to conform the footage and you should be good to go.
