Hi,
This is a newbie type questions, but is the Histogram the one and only way to measure the light in a scene? I really like the histogram so far.
I'm a bit confused because on pg 103 of the manual, it says there 4 different metering modes: Evaluative, Partial, Spot and Center Weighted Average.
Which one do most people use?
Do these 4 options work in conjunction with the Histogram? In another words, do these different metering modes affect the way the histogram takes it's light readings?
Or, is there 4 different, individual functions to meter light in the 7D?
When I think of spot metering in traditional Cine equipment, it's usually something like an in-camera or the Cine Sekonic spot meter which gives you a reading of the f-stops throughout the scene and you have to determine the 18% gray, in order to figure out the correct exposure.
So is there something like the Spot meter on the 7D?
Or does the Histogram render the Spot meter obsolete? It seems the Histogram is almost an advanced, modern day version of the Spot Meter.
