Hissing Noise

What's your signal chain? In other words, what other mics and/or sound equipment do you have plugged into your camera?
Also, what kind of "hiss" are you talking about? There's hiss from noisy audio gear, and then there's hiss from environmental issues like air units or nearby Interstates. Perhaps posting a sample of your problematic audio would help.

Sorry for delaying with the answers to your questions.
First i had the input level very high, which when i turned down really reduced the hissing. The other problem was being caused by environment or nearby interstates as C2V said above, because i get a similar hissing through the monitor speakers attached to the computer Imac. Thank you bath for the much needed help.
