Highest mbps setting in 1080p 24pN

I recently got a GH1 and was just wondering what the highest recorded mbps setting in 1080p 24pN was that was stable?

I heard that people could get 80mbps from 720p... is that possible in 1080 24 native?

Mike :)

Unfortunately, no one has yet succeeded in developing a completely stable Native 24p patch for the GH1 at any bitrate. While many have been able to record and play back Native 24p videos without apparent failures, these recording frequently contain empty or corrupted frames. On casual viewing, these flaws may not be immediately noticeable, but they usually cause the video to pause briefly for their duration.

I recently attempted to create a stable Native 25p patch that would predictably record a single empty frame at the end of each GOP. (With the intent of discarding the empty trailing frames in post-production and conforming the resulting stream to a 24p timeline.) This actually worked, most of the time...

This is what i told you?

Just a wacky idea to see if it could work. Unfortunately, the Native 24p patch has proven to be predictably unpredictable...

Have you managed a Native 25p patch that works error free in PAL (to remain in PAL)? I see constant references to 24pN being unstable and just assumed 25pN had similar issues. Is that so?

Currently I have no artistic attachment to progressive, but when looking at the learning curve ahead of me the notion of being able to safely edit without knowing about de-interlacing and wotnot until some later date is very appealing.

Lpowell, could you please explain the difference - if any - between shooting native 25P and shooting regular 50i, with the 25P contained within it? I have not tried a native 25P patch yet, beacuse I was under the assumption that it is somewhat unstable. But does it yield better looking footage? What are the pros and cons?

Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I haven't seen any weird frames in 24p, I step though them one by one, no pauses. But I don't video shrubberies, and it could be that the cam will fail next time out. To me, the 24p looks great and I really like just dropping it on the CS5 timeline. I alternate between the Lpowell stable patch, with all the stuff I don't need turned off, like battery, PAL, etc, and then the same patch on a duifferent SDHC card that has the 24 checked. SO far, no issues, but even if I had a bad frame, I would just edit it out. For live stuff I'm using the wrapped 24, just in case.

quick question, how do i see if what I am getting with the 24p native ticked is any different to unhacked camera. i know that my camera has accepted hack as version is 0.0 but when i use power director or mts converter 6 they both tell me that files before and after hack are 25fps. vlc tells me both are in 50 fp? what can I use to see if it is in 25p?
Grateful for help!

Start a 25fps project in your editing package. If the file plays back at the proper speed, it's at 25fps
