I recently got to work with a Red Lake MotionXtra HG-100K high speed camera which shoots up to 100,000 frames per second, or up to 1000 fps in HD. This camera had a lot of limitations in usability, espcially the fact that all monitoring and controlls had to be done from a laptop. Basically the camera records only a few seconds of footage to memory, then dumps the footage to a computer via a network cable. But there were some great features that you don't find on typical cameras, including a pre-trigger record option. There is a limit to how fast the memory is, so if you want to increase the framerate you'll probably have to decrease the resolution. Red is already doing this and giving us 120fps in lower resolutions, but if it can record 4k+ at 60fps (with an offboard solution) that same solution could potentially handle 300fps at 1080P, 750fps at 720P and 2000fps at 480P!
