And then I'm also going to have then draw a birds-eye-view look at a basic three-point lighting setup. They're going to hate me!!! BWAHAHAHAHA...

That's actually a pretty solid test, especially the short answer questions. I'm normally not a fan of film education based on tests and things of that matter rather than practical approaches but I definitely see where you were coming from with this quiz and it certainly does the job.

Hey -- Number 4... is that lamp spotted or flooded? Would be subject to lamp to lens distance too, yes? Kind of?

Of course, you are right. However these kids have to make due with 15 yr old LTM fresnels that don't have working spot/flood knobs, so we skipped that part. Got a few Kino Divas on order tho!

I passed photography by one point in high school because I couldn't bring myself to answer questions seriously on tests. I remember one was some sort of fill in the blank like "Autofocus_" and I wrote "FOR PUSSIES!" next to it.

That's kind of the down-side of doing this on a high-school level. Most schools/school systems require certain amounts of quantifiable grading through written quizzes and tests... even though this is really a field where the learning comes from doing.

I learned more about studio/field lighting from the grips and gaffers at HGTV/Food Network than any teacher/professor could have hoped to teach me. A few of those guys had motion picture backgrounds, really knew their stuff, and were willing to help an audio guy polish up his lighting skills.

That having been said, I agree with Qzar that this does a pretty good job.

If only you could have taught my broadcasting class.... I might have learned something, instead, i sat on dvxuser all class, and learned everything

Interesting that you said that. I'm giving them an assignment to get on DVXUser and write three paragraphs...one for each NEW thing that they learned by getting on the forums here.

I mean, I've learned a TON here, so why not...?

Wow, the only thing i remember learning in class, was that lighting doesn't matter.....

He seriously taught that...... As long as the shot is good, and the sound is good, lighting can suffer...

I tried to show him Dvxuser..... he was to busy breaking cameras....

Well, hopefully they don't stumble across the Cafe and spot your test.
