High pitch noise when DV cable is attached

Hello All,
I have a problem with my DVX 100-B.

I've actually worked with two of these units and they have both given me the same problem When attaching a DV cable to either a Laptop, or an FS-5, a couple of high pitch noises at 8k and 16k show up on the audio. Understandably this is a pain in the butt for me as I have to remove it in post (something i'd rather not do.)

Since this has happened with both cameras that I have worked with of this model, and it happens to a variety of units that plug into it, I would imagine that this might be a common problem?

The noise not only shows up on the FS-5 or Laptop capture, but also the tapes audio as well. The noise is not produced on the tape when the DV cable is disconnected.

Any thoughts? I would appreciate any help.

I've never had that problem and made many videos with my DVX.

In fact, my Mac also has a protools interface, an apogee converter, mixers, etc... and stylus pad, scanner, etc. When I first added ProTools, I got a lot of whining noise (regardless of the DVX). I finally got the apogee and bypassed the ProTools pres and converters, which solved it.

All a roundabout way of saying, my system seems to have gobs of RF interference (or something), but the DVX has never been part of that. (And, I'm pretty sensitive to any odd audio problems, and I've got a really nice set of 8" reference monitors).

I'd (a) try a new cable, (b) try the camera on someone else's system, or (b) get it serviced. The DVX is really an audio workhorse.

Thanks Michael,
Yeah the problem is not if im capturing after the fact, its more if im capturing while recording. The strange thing is that it happened on both units...
I probably will have it serviced, but I was wondering if I was doing something wrong first...

Here is a video of what is going on. The noise comes through fine on this

Much as I hate sending gear away, Id get it checked - even the best noise reduction can mess with your overall mix - and getting a high-end noise reduction plugin may cost more than a repair.

Hello,

Without seeing your cameras, it actually sounds like this is an external issue. Maybe the cable itself, or the laptop or firestore. Is it happening with both cameras?

Try swapping out the cable first.
