Hide N Seek

I liked the concept, but thought you fell short on delivering it. I can relate, as I've often wanted to chainsaw my children too (NOT!)... that was just a little over the top for me. See what all that running can do to a Mom? LOL. This was a family affair and it looks like you all had a good time making it, that's key. Great start, now lets see what you come up with next.

The ending totally threw me. I like dark comedies though so you're good with me.
It's a movie and it's her own son. If people don't understand that it's a joke then that's their problem. :)

I did want a little more from this. Seemed a bit too simple.

Keep at it though.

you're sick! nice twist at the end, did not see that coming. ha! congrats on your film!

Um, that mom is a little on the sadistic side, huh?! LOL!!!

Great fun film! This was a lot of fun to watch and I thought the music was very well done and added to the great mood of the film. The acting wasn't the best, but the story was playful and had me wondering where he went. Sound was good and I liked your shots, although I might have liked a little more movement in the shots themselves (i.e. dollying or such), but that's just me.

All in all, I say great first entry and I look forward to seeing more of your work! Thanks for sharing!

As the boom operator on this shoot I can answer the "how could you?!?" question for Belgarath (who is busy at orchestra tonight).

When he originally scripted the score it was supposed to be two brothers. As it turned out the day of the shoot, the brother character was unavailable so mom filled in and the story took on a darker meaning. In the end Belgarath had no qualms about the change as in both cases it was his younger bro who was being offed. Brothers being what they are it wasn't so much the means as the ultimate end that mattered.

jai - As the boom operator, I'm glad you liked the sound. I got the chance to use my new DIY carbon fiber boom pole. It worked sweet and was nothing to heft.

Wow...you are dark...Pretty bright and crisp image and good sound. Story was a little simple but that's ok because sometimes less is more. Natural chemistry was there between the actors and the gave a decent performance. Surprising ending. Interesting film!

Hey ... Cute / Horrific Story ... a little simple story ... but it works well ... Nice Shots ...

Nice job on Hide N Seek the picture and quality were top-notch. Like most shorts it was a little longer than needed but it all wrapped up well and made sense. Good job! I have no problem with the dark ending, but I'm finding that some on these boards are fairly conservative. Not a complaint just and observation.

Hi Belgarth,

The filmed looked great and the sound was crisp. The music really fit well. I just found the whole thing very cheesy though... the acting was good, but I didn't like the gesticulating to the camera. The ending was dark, but for some reason it didn't come across with any real punch, this might have something to do with the restrictive shots.

Overall though, Good stuff, and I look forward to your next.

I like the idea it was simple and to the point, so many short films try to over do it with the plot. It was shot well but in the first seen where she's looking for him she's in front of the stairs into the house in nearly every shot. if she walks out of frame she needs to walk into frame somewhere else. And after she tried to hide behind the tree there was a cut where she went from being next to the tree to being next to the boy. I'm a stickler for continuity, but that being said. I did like how you edited the boy hiding behind the tree, looked great.
