Any advise???
Having difficulty getting really good white balance with a new HF20. It's not terrible, but it is not accurate relative to being there live nor is it as good as my HVX200.
Just got an HF20 for $499 at Fry's this last weekend and spent a couple of days playing with the features and controls.
Tried the automatic, incandescent, and manual white balance settings. Also tried different lighting: incandescent bulb and warm temp fluoro.
All the presets and automatic looked a little cold. The reds looked a little orange. The olive (Sherwin Williams Caperberry on kitchen walls) looked flat and dark. Olive leaves were a shade lighter green.
I tried the manual white balance using 87 brightness copy paper. It yielded about the same. Interestingly, when looking at the lcd while performing the manual white balance, the color adjusted to look accurate for a second after pushing the button, then it adjusted itself into the less than accurate look obtained by the auto and presets.
All the above was viewed through the on-camera lcd...but it looked about the same on the Macbook pro in FCP.
Again, not terrible, but just a little cold.
Tonight I'll try a gray card on the manual.
BTW:
The AVCHD did an L&T quite easily into FCP 6. I xfered about 30 minutes worth of files with several different frame rates (60i, 30p, 24p) into PreRes 422 with remove pulldown turned on...no sweat.
FCP dragged and dropped those different frame rate files into a single timeline and allowed playback and edit just fine. It created a 29.97 timeline.
