HF100 doing some macro work

Awesome footage, especially the shot with the eye -- amazing.

Is that just achieved by putting the camera very close to the subject and letting autofocus do its thing, or is there a "macro mode" that needs to be enabled?

The last shot with the cat -- are you adjusting focus using the joystick on the LCD screen? Seems like it would be awkward, but your footage doesn't shake much.

The camera automatically goes into macro mode as long as you are zoomed OUT. You can use auto focus but that was done with manual focus and yeah I was rack focusing with a miniture joystick LOL. Honestly the only reason it doesnt shake that much is cause I slowed it down to 50%. But the motion is really wierd looking cause I recorded in 30P (PF30). I hadn't planned on slowing it down or I would have shot in 60i and it would have looked waaaaaayyyyy better.

Thnx for checking it out, every one should own this camera!!! I havnt had this much fun in a long time.

Not to get too off topic, but do you have any experience with the preamps on the external mic port yet? Does it record noisy audio if you plug a mic directly into the camera without going through something like the beachtek?

Thanks for the footage you've posted -- I'm definitely buying one of these.

none yet. I have a Rode VideoMic I would be using except for the unusual hotshoe on the HF100/10. I'm gonna order the adapter when I get a chance cause I wanna do a web series about this guy who is a washed up pornstar trying to break back into porn and on his first "outing" someone gets killed and it turns into a murder mystery told from the perspective of the cameraman kinda like cloverfield. Also I have a more traditional short I wanna attempt with the HF100 for which I plan to use a boom mic, so I'll need to get a beachtek or sign preamp for that, but unfortunately that's a little bit in the future. Wish I had the info you needed now, sorry.

edit: here is the adapter I'm gonna get http://shop.dm-accessories.com/products/cms-flat

Hey Duff just checked out your site. Love the Biz Card!!!
And you totaly got pwnd by that sombrero wearing frog, classic!

Haha, thanks. I have a Canon XH-A1, but I'm traveling to Korea for a year and don't want to have to worry about lugging it around. Thus I'm selling it and buying the HF100 and some accessories. I figure with the Red Scarlet coming out early next year, the entire camera market will have changed by the time I get back.

That and the fact that apparently the director of Crank 2 is using the XH-A1 and the HF100... A $630 camcorder producing an image that holds up on the big screen? That's insane. Very exciting times we're living in.

It's funny, though, because I've never been so excited before about what is technically a downgrade. The HF100 just seems like so much fun that I almost can't wait to sell my A1 and get my hands on one. Haha.

The HF100 is fun!!! I said it in a couple other posts but I got the HF100 and HVX200a at the same time and the HVX is still in the box. I did open it and put in a charged battery from my DVX camera bag to make sure it worked and it's been sitting in it's box ever since LOL

I picked up an HF10 about a month ago and it's a great camera. It's pretty small and it makes shooting a lot more fun. I just shot this a few days ago.

And what's crazy is it's sharper than the HVX.

Looks really good Isaac.

Yeah the sharpness is unbelievable! Especially if you consider it's only about $700 and the size of a 12oz coke can!!!
My DVX is definately gone the way of the dinasour, and my HVX200a is looking more and more like a red-headed step child LOL. Don't get me wrong, the color space of DVCPROHD is amazing, and the HVX200a's improved noise signature is great but come on it's 2008, it's been almost 40 years since we've been to the moon, a black man's got a shot at being president of our country and Panasonic still refuses to give us true HD for $5000 when I can get it from a coke can sized toy looking unit. I am so switching to the EX1 when I make a few extra $Ks. Right now the HVX200a makes sense for work, work flow and all the DVX batteries I have laying around LOL.
And for the Panny fan-boys, YES the resolution is THAT noticably better form a sub $1k camera!

Yeah, I've shot with an HVX and and HPX500, and the resolution bump I get from this little camera is very noticeable. For a lot of the films I shoot this camera is good enough. Shooting a comedy or drama with no fast action is totally doable with this, and the fact that the picture is so clean is cake. Color space is definitely better with the HVX, but sharpness on this camera is sweet. I'm pretty set with this cam until Scarlet comes out.
