HF 11 NTSC vs PAL

Sorry guys I posted my question in one of these sub forums but the post should be in this forum :)
My question was wrongly posted here

I got a friend who is visiting the US and just bought a HF11 NTSC model from B&H. HE is right now still in the US and now thinking which problems he could have in using it in Europe (he lives in a APL country).
What are in your opinions the pro and cons of using an NTSC model in EU ? The PSU/socket issue is not a problem and can be solved with an adapter.
The cam has 30/60/24 rather then the 25/50/24 but can he handle all the differences simply by the edit sw ? E.g. Can he creates PAL DVDs just using the edit sw as a converter ?
He can connect the cam via the HDMI cable so he should be able also to connect it directly to its HD LCD screen (which handles actually even NTSC).
WHat do you think ? Please, let me know so that I can report to him your feedbacks.
THX for the help.

i'd have to wonder if transcoding would degrade the image quality.

afaik, the frame sizes are the same, but you'd be dropping frames in most instances?

b&h ships overseas, i wonder if they could have sold him a pal version instead of ntsc.

interesting .... let's say I have a source video at 30p, would my editing program be able to convert it at e.g. 25p without degrading ? mmm ... interesting !
thx

the argument is that both framerates have the same overall bandwidth limitations, but when the bandwidth is divided amoungst fewer frames to begin with, there is more picture information in each frame.

removing frames from the higher framerate standard means that you are throwing away bandwidth.

He will be fine shooting at 24p. Converted to PAL it will be reproduced at 25p and therefore will be slightly faster. But this happens also to all the movies you watch on TV in Europe and nobody bothers or notices it.

That's a perfect explanation which I was looking for. If the bandiwdth limit is exactly the same for the 2 systems then the PAL will have a small advantage due to havening less frames to "fill" up.
But at the same time being 24p so close to 25p the viewers should not see any difference. Furthermore, with 60i he will be able to do some overkranking and better slowmotions effects :)
Thanks guys for the help.
