Well put Mike, I've been trying to say this since people started the "rip off" thing...I think he's a master at borrowing shots and ideas...but when he puts his dialog and his new age style on it, it's his...and it's great...

Just like in music and art, it's all been done...it's just our turn to do it...

The three retellings of the Snow/Broken Sword encounter was brilliant. The fact that the King's perceptiveness allowed Nameless to transcend into the ultimate warrior was equally brilliant. And the cinematography was the best I've seen this year next to Kill Bill Vol. 2.

It's also a fairly brilliant piece of political propaganda. :)

Great movie, four stars (4/4), two thumbs up!

Re: HERO!!!

I just saw this tonight too. ;D

I completely agree, this was fantastic on the big screen. I had seen it before a while back, but either I had a bad copy or they have cleaned this...because it looks fantastic!!

Although I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for an action film. My friend (expecting a Jet Li action flick) was bored... :(

I love swordplay and martial arts...and I love filmmaking and great story telling...

I find this soo much better than billion dollar movies...like the 2nd two Matrix's...ya know? This was way better...

I loved it!!! 4 Stars all the way! ;D

Re: HERO!!!

Jive, no its all subtitles. Saw this movie friday, wow. Went with a friend he hated it, he was expecting a hack and slash bloodbath. PaulK true that part was brilliant also the cinematography was amazing.

Well put. And you can't really accuse a director of ripping something off when he openly acknowledges his inspirations. What separates QT from the rest of the pack is that he can add his own touch and make something great even greater.

Re: HERO!!!

The Special effects for Hero were done by former Industrial Light and Magic alumni at DFreedomzone ( now closed) VFX Supervisor Ellen Poon and The Orphanage in San Francisco.

.i especially enjoyed the gayish water ballet. romantic gay chase and bouncing off the water with their sword's sharp edge.
and did the three retellings have different colors soley for the reason that it was a different story or is it suggesting that they actually wore those colors?
....had to ask...

Re: HERO!!!

I just saw it again today, what a nice cinematography, awesome, One of the best this year for sure.

Re: HERO!!!

pleasant film. I gut duped though. The trailer sets you up for a fantasy flick, and it's actually a pretty interesting rashomon rip...but it's still a fun ride. Just know that you're getting more "Crouching Tiger" and less "Iron Monkey"

Re: HERO!!!

Finally saw it yesterday on dvd!! Now, I'm not a fan of overblown wire work, but I was able to tolerate it because of the cinematography. As a still photographer who likes to take color pictures with the colors as subject, I loved this movie. The warm colors(for the lie), cold colors(for the king's interpretation), nature colors(tell the assassination of the king 3 years ago), and white or void color(for what actually happened). I also like how the army was void of color(grayish) with only the plumes of there halberds being red.
Great writing, great acting, great psychological visuals, overdone fighting actually likeable and was in intregrated with the tone of the story. Easily 4 3/4 - 5 star film.
