HERITAGE - Geoff Reisner

Geoff,

I'm really liking your poster. I love the subtle train tracks and it has a 'lonely' look.

Just checked out the BTS shots and especially like the shot with the guy in the overcoat. That looks cold with the snow and all. It looks like I feel right now, and I'm in Southern California where the lows have been going below freezing.

Good luck on your project!

Hi Geoff,

Was just cruising your thread and I dig the soft light on the actor's closeup as well as the exterior/trenchcoat shot, looks great. I also like the framing that an be seen in the monitor in the last shot (shaving), nice job. What's in the lighting kit you're using? Do you own them or did you rent or borrow? Just curious.

Looking forward to seeing the results of your work.

Nice BTS photos. Sounds like you guys had a good shoot.
Monsters, whew, I drank three of those once and I was awake all night. That should do the trick for you.

Yea Monsters can screw you up pretty bad. Doing the post on Project 47 for horrorfest, I was drinking at least one, sometimes two a day for almost two weeks. It took me a good month to get back to a regular sleeping schedule.

Thanks Robert! I really like that overcoat shot too; the actual camera shot is very similar to that still and it's one of the better shots of the film. All my buddies in LA are complaining about the weather and how's it been so cold for SoCal, I feel bad for em' but soon it'll be over and it'll be back in the 70's whereas here it will drop lower into the 10's and horrific negatives until 'April' saves us, heh. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the BTS. It's a small lighting package, a Tweenie Kit, (3) 650w - Pepper Pak 100, 100, 200 - Pepper Pak 100 300 600 - small flag kit, some stands and then some basic grip gear. I don't own any of the lights, its all rented. I do own a small flo light but haven't used it yet for this particular shoot. On all the setups we did Friday, I was using 40 - 50% of the kit, but these were daytime scenes.

The biggest use of the kit was for that scene in the bedroom with the character sitting on the edge of the bed. I had two of the tweenies literally side by side, full spot, with flags above and below so the light was streaming through without a lot of bounce. Out of frame far left was a 200w with diffusion giving a little light to the bed itself and the woman's lower body, then there was a 100w with diffusion position below and in front of the man on the bed to help give a little more edge on the face. We used another 100 somewhere else...can't remember where exactly and I forgot to take lighting setup pics of that scene.

On Wednesday, we're doing all the night scenes and I'll probably use 80 - 90% of the kit. For the night stuff, I want very hard, low-key lighting. For some of the night setups, I'm expecting that I'll use everything I've got in order to create numerous narrow pockets of light. I think I'm going to run into some setbacks because I don't have enough flags or cstands. I might have to resort to using placement near walls and furniture to shave the light in a more suitable manner. I wish I had done more lighting setup pictures for the daytime stuff (months from now I'll forget how I got a certain look and it's great to have the photos) I'll try and document the setups better for the nighttime shoot on Wednesday.

Thanks! I love that one too, I wish I could have grabbed some DSLR stills from that spot/setup but it was so damn cold and we didn't have the time. I would have really liked to use a shot like that for the poster.

Yeah, I like that grab, too! Very nice!

Funny how the frigid cold makes time go away! I can't blame you.

I am glad that you took the time to explain some of your lighting set-ups. I was impressed with those two bedroom shots. Especially the one with the windows in the backgound! You did a nice job on that one!

Looking great, Geoff. Very exciting to see your non-vfx work!!! :)

Thanks Ted, I'm glad this a non-vfx film! I was just talking to a friend on the phone about how this project is turning out a lot better than Project 47 because there aren't any visual effects. In a way, this production has felt much more like our first film we made, Carcel, which was shot with a skeleton crew over a two-day period. It was a simple story and we had a ton of fun making it; whereas P47 was very stressful for numerous reasons.

Well, that is great to hear. I have always been fond of filmmaking at it's roots... that's probably because I know nothing about vfx! But I do love a good story, good acting and good camera work.

Best to you!

Geoff, amazing looking poster (LOVE the colors coming through the tree), and banner. Late or not, I'm glad you're in & looking forward to watching your film!

Great Shot. The lighting is really nice. I like how you draw attention to him but light everything else enough to show his surroundings. Nice.

Just wrapped, that's it for the big stuff. I need to do some pickups tomorrow morning, that's it. I was hoping today would at most be a 12 hr day but we fell a little behind... again the cold weather a huge factor... and we ended up pulling a 17 hr day. I'll post some more BTS & grabs tomorrow afternoon when I wake up.

Love the screen grab. Composition is great and nicely lit. Were you going for a morning shot here? If you were you pulled it off nicely. Looking forward to seeing some more.
