HERITAGE - Geoff Reisner

Wow, I actually thought Project 47 was a GREAT title, hehe.

I really stress titles... Daniel and I will go over titles for hours until we like one... usually they come pretty quick, but sometimes it's a laborous process.

I like 'The Truth of Life', it brings all sorts of ideas to my head as far as what kind of story it could be.

A lot of times, I accidentally come up with a title and then try and invent a story based off the title. Sometimes it works... other times it's a disaster.

I have a hell of a time with titles... I never want to give away too much in the title. I kinda like your idea of coming up with titles and then assigning them to a film but maybe it would be better to come up with a long list of titles and then pick and choose from that list as scripts get developed... any way I'm ranting... Good luck on the project, I like your banner.

Thanks Jeremy! And that's a good idea on the titles, building up a huge list of titles for future use. It could be just as important as organizing the dozens of little post it notes with story ideas.

Hi Geoff, good luck with Heritage, nice poster design. I almost called our Drama Fest entry 'Heritage', but we switched to Fade the very last minute...

Thanks Peter! Are you serious about almost calling your entry 'Heritage'? I'm very gullible so maybe your kidding but if you're not...that has to be one the strangest things ever if we both were gunning for two of the same titles, hah!

That sounds lilke me. I have quite a few titles that I love that I want to build stories around.

How'd you come up with 'Threading the Needle'. It's a great title, and it feels likes it almost had to pop up out of thin air! :cheesy:

Actually, it's Mark's. He had the 4-5 paragraph story and title. I read it and immediately loved it. I created a new character and changed a few things and wrote the first screenplay in 24 hours. It just flowed.

No, I was just fooling around with the Heritage title, Geoff.

Shoot Day 1 - January 19th

Started shooting today at 9:30 am, even though I didn't get much sleep I was wired. My friend Wes, (a Director and DOP himself ) helped me out tremendously by gaffing and even booming sound. (Tomorrow we'll be reversing roles as I help him on one of his shoots, a film he's submitting for 'On the Lot'.)

We had a few interior shots in the house; took a little long with our first setup...I kept tweaking lights perhaps a bit too much, but once we wrapped first scene, things picked up and we maintained a good pace.

In the afternoon, we did the exteriors we needed for the day. It was fairly cold, in the 20's I believe, but the wind wasn't that bad... I've been on plenty of shoots in far worse conditions so I can't complain.

We finished up at a train station and got some footage on the train as well which came out really nice. I was worried we'd get kicked off the train but no one seemed to care what we were doing and the conductor never noticed the camera. I boarded with a back pack which carried the HVX. Once we were moving, I took the camera out and immediately started rolling. I knew I only needed a few moments of train footage and didn't want to risk any problems with train officials. Chicago has very strict rules and regs when shooting on their trains.

I'll be shooting some establishing shots throughout the weekend, but my next major shoot day isn't until Wednesday of next week. I'll post some BTS shots and some grabs soon.

Hey Geoff, nice bts. And I always like a train story!

Sounds good.

Next Wed., huh? Getting down to the wire!

Good luck!

Thanks guys, yea we're cutting it close... I figure once we're done shooting Wedneday, I'll spend all day editing on Thursday & Friday. I'll load up on Monster energy drinks and crank out a five-minute cut. I'm giving my composer the weekend to do the score while I touch up the sound design. The plan is to have everything come together on the 29th.

Also, I have to say, I love the guerilla style which you employed to get the train shot, nice! Can't wait to see it!

Heh, what was also funny about the train sequence...between me and my actor, we only had a few singles cash on us...luckily, the conductor wasn't charging people upon immediate entry so we lucked out in that regard as well! I planned everything in great detail that day but completely forgot about petty cash, big mistake.

Nice BTS photos. Sounds like you guys had a good shoot.
Monsters, whew, I drank three of those once and I was awake all night. That should do the trick for you.
