First Short film shot with my friends for my mates A level. It had to focus on the subject of drugs. It was shot in 4 hours in a factory.

Edited in Afte effects and Premiere Pro CS4
Sound: Requiem for a Dream Dubstep remix

Equipment
Canon 550D
18-55mm Kit lens
50mm f1.8 Canon
28mm f2.8 Pentax m42 mount
DIY sholder mount

I know there are a mirade of problems such as the far from epic acting but this was my first proper short film so go be easy :cheesy:

Dont use kit lens because it looks like shot on camcorder ,youve got nice 50mm and 28mm use them, buy ND filters,8 and 4.

Using the Requiem for a Dream music (even if it IS remixed) is a huge film school cliché. Avoid it at all costs! As soon as I hear that score, I just tune out.

I know, i know but It was done under strict time constraints so it was a quick choice. What about camera work, colouring etc ?

Perhaps a little violent...
To go along with the overall grittyness, it felt like the image needed some grain.
Also, I would have recommended a more consistent color look, rather than constantly shifting color between scenes. Ah, also perhaps a slightly more realistic color look would have been better.
I did think the gore was relatively well done, if a tad bit over-dramatic.

That constant **** is due to Englands glorious weather cycles.. one minute the sun was glaring through, next minute there was hardly any haha but I fully understand what you mean and thanks for the advice.

The gore was litterally water, choclate syrup and red curry powder.. for flesh we used strawberry jam.

Wow, this is really great for your first film. Much better than my first. (then again the t2i is a much easier camera to work with than the D90 i started out with).

I really like the color pallette you chose. It is a little inconsistant as others mentioned, but probably due to the weather messinng your lighting up all the time. Most of your punches looked pretty good, a few looked a little to weak but nothing to glaring.

The acting was here and there, but overall more good than bad. They are right about the song being very cliche, i almost turned it off after hearing it. Glad i didnt, but it hurts you more than helps you.

Most impressive is you were able to create a simple story, and execute it pretty well. I liked your after effects added in, added a lot IMO. (sure some was over the top, but i dont feel for hte context it took anything away.)

You really need to keep it up, i want to see more from you.

Making a good film takes time, experience and effort, and im guessing that this is better than a lot of peoples first films.

well done.

I think the punches could have been better filmed/cheated. They look very pulled in the shots. Try putting the camera behind the actor being hit so you don't have to pull your punches and can just show his head whipping from side to side and adding the sound effect. Direct on punches are difficult to cheat and make look good.

Thanks Jon will take the adivice into account.

Revsta, I know what you mean. Ive got my mates working on it for the next film, learning better reactions.

Anyone esle have anythignelse to say ?
