I wonder if anyone could help me out here. I was hired for a very small gig to help some newbies put together a music video. I had nothing to do with the shoot or the capturing of the footage. I am not really a mac person, I'm a win 7 guy and was told they captured the project is premiere cs4 so I didn't think it would be a big deal because I can basically edit on anything except final cut which I don't really know yet.
In any case, they had some pretty bad footage, but they knew it and were fine with it, and just wanted me to edit it. I don't have an HDV camera and was told that you can only import Canon XH A1 footage WITH a Canon xh a1 - not any HDV camera.. is this true? Anyway - they imported all the footage... and it appears they did it in imovie. I don't know if this effects quality or not, but we dumped all the .mov clips too a 32 gb SD card, and then I imported them into my win 7 64 bit editing station on which I have Sony Vegas and Premiere CS4 & 5.
Nothing could see the clips. They won't play in any media player and quicktime says it needs to download something more but then doesn't say what.
Can someone help me out with this?
Here is the shortest clip that was on the card:
http://blackout.com/blackout/hb/problemwithcodec.mov
The file opens but only plays audio.. no visual.
Where to go from here.. is there something I can download or was there some major screwup and they imported the footage wrong? If all is lost, do I need to borrow a cannon HX A1 to get the footage into my editing system from tape? I don't know if the used the 24f mode or not, but the quality of the video was pretty damn horrible. They knew this, but I didn't shoot it, I am just syncing it and editing it this time. They saw the quality of my hacked GH1 and immediately want to hire me to do their next video at a more pro level, but they would like to save this for themselves.
thanks,
