Help with picture

Hey there, - would like to see what your input is on a shoot I did the other day. In the super heavy sunlight I found that getting the correct exposure was hard (especially not blowing out the whitewater). This was shot with a 7D, standard picture profile with -4 contrast -1 sharpening and -2 saturation on a Canon 25-105 F4 lens. When capturing the footage straight off the card and reviewing the h264 files in quicktime, I thought that the shots where completely blown out (definitely showed up darker on my viewfinder). Then converted to Apple Prores 422 and saw that they where much darker. Any helpful pointers would be much appreciated and hopefully I can make this footage look better....and/or pointers for settings in the future! Thanks

You probably want to look into getting a neutral density filter then. Lots of info on the different options in this forum.

Paddleboarding down some rocks, pretty crazy. Did he ride it out?

Yeah, some of them. Most where carnage. Got some ND filters for future. As for the picture quality and gamma after rendering out to Prores - i'm surprised that it happens like that. Any suggestions? Or does everyone have this issue and fixes it in post? Thanks for the help!

Thanks guys,
So I converted to ProRes using MPEGStreamClip and got the shift. When using Compressor, it's near even to the originals. I don't like the workflow as much but I guess that would do. The in camera sharpening seems to be adding a less than desirable look to my shots too. Gunna dial that down and test.
