I just recently got a 15" powerbook so I can use the PCMCIA slot instead of ingesting off the camera. When I put the cards in they dont come up like a new drive has been inserted into the computer. I downloaded the P2CMS program but that doesnt recognize the cards either. When the card gets inserted, I do see at the top bar of the screen an icon appears letting me know the card is in, in grey it says UNKNOWN VENDOR, next line in grey it says MASS STORAGE and then in black under that it says POWER OFF CARD.

Any ideas what I need to do?

Thanks

I forget exactly, but isn't Panasonic's P2 driver software separate from P2CMS? I think if you just install the driver you'll be good to go. Works great on my PB G4 with all 4 of my cards.

Sorry if I've got this confused...

Correct, the P2 Content Management System software is no substitute for the drivers that are needed to mount the cards.

you need the drivers then it'll mount lickety split... I have been thinking of getting an old powerbook just for this very reason.. or possibly a cheap PC laptop but that makes me shudder a bit... now if only the macbook had one.. The pro is nice but it's not worth the price increase for those few extra options...

The fastest G4 Powerbooks are getting pretty cheap on eBay ~$600-700 for the 15", loaded. They make great P2 transfer/FCP rough cut workstations.
