Help with my first music video - problems with Vimeo

I shot my first music video test - a gritty urban rap video

shot on the streets and in a club, with lots of girls, guns and edits.

It's not perfect, it still needs a lot of work, but the main problem is,

after uploading it to Vimeo it looks completely different!

I know Vimeo can sometimes introduce compression artefacts,

but it seems to have introduced trees throughout the whole video.

Is there a "Do not add trees" check box in Vimeo?

Or will I have to buy a "Tree remover" plug-in?

That is really odd it seems to have replaced the really bad rap music with something that is actually very good. It must be new new anti-poo filter in Vimeo.

It is pleasant to see something other than a 'rap' video...

But as for criticisims... I think there was a bit too much medium/closup shots, and not enough... well... something else... How about adding a leprechaun or two... how about some guy named Fheidhlimidh in a boat...

Ha ha, thanks for the compliments.

Re Lack of camera variety - Yes, I know what you mean, but my original idea was to do
a one take portrait, like that skin-head O'Connor video, so in fact there's way too much variety.

First attempt at a music vid, I learned a lot, and if ever do another
I'll definitely plan a more structured visual aesthetic. Thanks for the tip.

I don't get the "guy named Fheidhlimidh in a boat…" reference, even after googling it!

Honestly Not funny, and just really shows "hate" that exist in your blood. If you are an artist, create your art & forget about the world. Secondly looks like a Hellios 44 lens? I thought the project looked great & completely disagree with j1clark, not every project needs to show different focal lengths. Especially where these dslrs perform poorly in wide shots & better in close tight shots.

Didn't see a lot of hate. Hear that word a lot. Not sure about his blood.... Passion is where you find it.

It was different though. Dug it. Not a fan of out of focus stuff....

From the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A1id%C3%ADn_Fheilim%C3%AD

"Báidín Fheilimí" or sometimes "Báidín Fheidhlimidh" (old spelling) is a traditional Irish song which originates from the Gaeltacht region in the north-west of County Donegal, which is usually taught to young children. The lyrics are in the Irish language, and it is based on the immortalistion of a small boat owned by a man called Feilimí (Phelim).

It has been covered by artists such as Na Casaidigh[1] and Sinéad O'Connor.[2]
The lyrics, which are in the public domain, are as follows:

[edit] Original Irish Lyrics

Báidín Fheilimí d’imigh go Gabhla,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.
Báidín Fheilimí d’imigh go Gabhla,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.

(Chorus)

Báidín bídeach, báidín beosach,
Báidín bóidheach, báidín Fheilimí
Báidín díreach, báidín deontach
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.

Báidín Fheilimí d’imigh go Toraí,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.
Báidín Fheilimí d’imigh go Toraí,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.

Chorus

Báidín Fheilimí briseadh i dToraí,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.
Báidín Fheilimí briseadh i dToraí,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.

Chorus

Báidín Fheilimí briseadh i dToraí,
Báidín Fheilimí is Feilimí ann.
Báidín Fheilimí briseadh i dToraí,
Éisc ar bord agus Feilimí ann.

[edit] English translation

Feidhlim's little boat went to Gola,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it,
Feidhlim's little boat went to Gola,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it.

(Chorus)

A tiny little boat, a lively little boat,
A buoyant little boat, Feidhlim's little boat,
A straight little boat, a willing little boat,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it.

Feidhlim's little boat went to Tory,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it,
Feidhlim's little boat went to Tory,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it.

Chorus

Feidhlim's little boat crashed on Tory,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it,
Feidhlim's little boat crashed on Tory,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it.

Chorus

Feidhlim's little boat crashed on Tory,
Feidhlim's little boat and Feidhlim in it,
Feidhlim's little boat crashed on Tory,
Fish on board and Feidhlim in it.

j1clark@ucsd.edu - "Feidhlim's little boat" - Well, I did ask!
Nice Sinéad O'Connor song, but it could do with a bangin' hardcore remix.
Fond memories of too short a time spent in Donegal.

vision_filmz - "Hate" - No, no Hate here.
Some cheekiness and affectionate disrespect, but no hate.
I just used it a device to set up my joke about videos looking different on Vimeo,
and a bad-ass rap vid was as different from mine as I could think of.

"Not funny" - I may have to concede this, given that only one person I know played along.
A director friend's reply to my complaint about Vimeo introducing tree artefacts to my urban shoot was:
"…the trees are barely noticeable, i think you're being too picky."

Hellios 44? - No, but if it has similar characteristics to my old Leica 90 cron, I'll check it out.

Fiftyfoot "out of focus stuff" - Ha-ha, I know, I just bought a tilt shift lens,
it's my new favourite toy and I'm going to play with it all the time, and use it for everything,
for ever. And then later, hardly ever.
That's one of the good things about this business, occasionally we get to be ten again.

Going away now, thanks for all your thoughts, see you next time I've got something to plug.
