Hello,
I am in the market for a new editing monitor and wanted to get some viewpoints on what you think I might want to get. some background:
I have my own businesses and shoot more of what you would call video but really my work is a mix of everything. I shoot, edit and deliver myself one man band style for most jobs. My current monitor is a JVC 20" broadcast LCD monitor that is 1080p30 but only with component inputs. I would like a monitor that can do 1080p60 using HDMI or HDSDI. This will probably be fed from a Blackmagic output card. My NLE is Edius.
I really enjoy color correction and having proper colors. One thing I have noticed over the years is my delivery has shifted away from optical discs to the internet. From my perspective, this means the way people watch my products has moved from their televisions to other screens. This means a move from the YUV color space to a more RGB centric world. Since my JVC monitor is no spring chicken, I see it as a YUV monitor. What I think I need is more of an RGB centric broadcast monitor if that exists? Right now, when I know something is going to web, I will correct on the JVC but then tweak on my NLE computer preview window knowing the images look a little different.
Does any of this YUV / RGB stuff make sense? Do you see a difference between broadcast screens and computer monitors? What I do not want is just a computer monitor that can be used for video.
I am considering something like a Boland, Ikan, Viewz etc... but is that overkill? A 20" or 21" is a great size for my workspace,
Thanks for your input!
