Help, Windows XP MXF Access Denied

I just shot quite a bit of stuff. I edit with Avid Xpress Pro, and was transferring the p2 files to the hard drive. then when i was ready to edit, i realized i needed to put the video files into the AvidMedia Files folder so avid can find them.

I feel I've made a bad mistake. I did not copy and paste them, I selected them and dragged them over. They did not change drive volumes, they remained on the same Hard Drive but just to different folders.

Now I can't view them, or edit them. when I try to move them or modify them in anyway it says, "Access is Denied" and I cannot do anything with them.

I realize this issue must have come up before, but I am hoping for a specific answer or remedie ASAP, I'll be browsing as I wait for responses.

thanks in advanced

If you have had Avid open the whole time, try deleting the index files that Avid makes (msmMMOB and msmFMID)with Avid shut down and then restarting Avid. Unless you have Avid Xpress Pro 5.7, the files have to be in Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/ or other numbered folder, without any subfolders (video files, audio files both in the /1/ folder, not in /VIDEO/ or /AUDIO/.
Hope this helps.

funny thing is, i've gone almost a year without running into this. I've tried that, and have a steady system for handling P2 cards and MXF files. But this time, I blame windows XP. I have the Home edition too. I tried what others have suggested as far as unchecking the "Use simple file sharing" but i cant uncheck it because it does not exist.

i've tried safe mode, but do not really know computers too well. not to mention my computer likes to shut itself off for some odd reason, not in normal mode though.

Well, if you have to recover them, you can take the HD out, take it to CompUSA or a similar place, and ask them to copy it to an external HD drive. I think they charge about $80 or less. If you have access to another system, you can do it all yourself.
