help...What are the settings to stream from HVX to fcp

We just got the cam in today and we have a shoot on Monday. We want to stream dvcpro50 signal from the HVX200 via firewire directly to FCP. We have the G5 set up with an external FW800 drive on a seperate FW800 PCI bus. So far we can't seem to get any singnal to fcp. Can anyone please help us with the cam settings necessary?

Hi.

We are using FCP 5. In log & capture we set the device to non controllable and the input to dv50. We just do not get any signal (audio nor video) to fcp. I appreciate your help. I'm guessing its a camera setting we are missing.
 
Yeah, that seems like it would be the only hitch, the FCP version like Jerrod said. You got the rest setup well. Our Evinsky has done that for national commercials, even in HD, so you may want to PM him directly, Randy, and get some advice. He even did it on an Powerbook.
 
Is your sequence settings set to match? What camera mode are you in? Leave the camera in the default mode, not the firewire connection mode like when you are importing P2 footage. It should be very straightforward.

remember that FCP 5.0.4 is a free download.
 
Thanks everyone for the input. I can't express how grateful we are...especially since we received the HVX on Friday and our shoot is Monday at 7:00am!

I'll check the FCP version and make sure the sequence settings match the capture clip settings. We were focused on cam settings and may have botched that up. We'll reset the cam settings and try again. I'm in the studio later today and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks All. It was the sequence settings not matching up. Silly mistake. We got cought up in the new camera we forgot what we already knew! Works great now. Video data flows smoothly to the Maxtor 300GB FW800 7200rpm, 16MB cache external. Tomorrow we are going to Raid1 two identical drives to see if we can get a security duplicate of the footage. Harddisks do crash.

I'll post detailed settings for David tomorrow.

Quck update: The two Maxtor 300GB 16MB Cache 7200rpm fw800 drives were configured as a Raid1 set (mirrored) and the raid was set as the capture scratch for FCP.

The idea is that we are going to use this G5 and externals as an HD record source in the studio and we wanted an instant back up.

Video & Audio captured beautifully, but after FCP was shut down, the disks went crazy in some kind of loop causing any selected icon to blink and flash and causing strange clicking noises. I'm sure its just operator error and this should work, but too risky for our 7:00am call in the morning!

Since we will have FCP in the studio and we are doing green screen, we can test the key in FCP live. We'll post our set up profiles and a few clips for reference.
