Help! Weird Playback

Hey everyone. I just purchased my fs100 and it is awesome. I am having a problem with it though, I have the san disk class 10 sd cards, but when I record footage, randomly there will be messed up frames in the footage, almost like a hiccup, which becomes all weird color squares. It does this randomly, almost as if it were a buffering issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to diagnose it? Any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.I have included a screen shot of the footage.

Thanks.Screen Shot 2011-11-01 at 10.14.09 PM.jpg

Did you use this card in two different types of cameras with reformatting it? Also, transfer what you can and try reformatting it a few times and see if it happens again.

Nope, just this camera. It has done it with a few cards as well. I looked at the footage on my computer and then put it back in the camera, but that was after it started doing the problem. So that shouldnt be the issue

Maybe just a bad batch of cards? Sometimes writing errors occur with one random card, but you said it has done that with a few so that makes me think it's something with the camera.

The only thing I could think of creating this problem is:

(1) Not reformatting the card when you first bought it before first using it in the camera.
(2) Using a really cheap brand.
(3) Using a really low class.

But in your case, it's probably none of those.

Hopefully Sandisk aren't cutting corners with their components now that they have announced a massive price drop on all their cards.

God its nice that SD cards are soo cheap. Cant believe I can get a 32 gig SD card for 1/8th the price I originally paid for an 8 gig p2 card! (I bought my HVX less than a week before they starting selling them with free 16 gig cards)

Oh and I do understand a P2 card is different than a SD card, im just comparing to the first time I dealt with solid state.

To the OP, I would contact Sony and see what they say.

I'd ask if you're certain that your sandisk cards are genuine. There's tons of fake/counterfeit "sandisk" cards out there. Google "fake sandisk card" to get an idea of how to tell the difference.

Ditto ^^^^^^^^

There's a whole wiki on fake cards. Some of them have odd storage capacities and use some kind of directory file to make it look like they are normal. A card may show up as 16gb when in fact it's like 19gb or something. This mismatch can cause data corruption, according to the wiki.

I would try a card purchased from Best Buy or somewhere like that. If the problem persists, you could have a bad camera...

I had this problem a few times, but them problem happened on my old NX5U and FS100 with sony's fmu. I believe this the problem occured when I transfered the files to my computer. The play back was always perfect on the camcorder but once in a while after the transfer to my pc was complete I would have a few digital looking frames. If I caught it, I would just delete the copy and transfer all the files again to get rid of the digitizing. Sometimes sony vegas caused it during editing. I still haven't pin pointed the cause, but I know that the problem occurs after I transfer the files to my pc. In camera playback is perfect.

Sounds like another good reason that when doing your backups that in addition to backing up the clips brought in from the Content Management Utility, that you also completely copy the original SD card as a backup. You will avoid the unhappy scene of finding out the bad newsm after you have erased the original files.
