I have been shooting the show this season in 30p and I really love the look, but I have noticed with the color orange I get judder even when there is no motion. I have tried everything I can think of in post, but nothing will get rid of the problem...........Here is a screen grab from the latest footage with blaze orange in it, look closely at the jacket edges:

Is there a denoiser or something I am missing to rid my footage of this horrible malady??????

I have exactly the same problem, except it is not orange, but red and it does not depend on frame rate and progressive/interlaced.

You can correct this somewhat by reducing the saturation and brightness of this color in post. In FCP, I use the 3way corrector and limit its effect to a rather narrow color range in which the problem occurs.

Needless to say I would really appreciate some sort of explanation and proper fix, rather than just this workaround.

That isn't "judder" or interlace artifacting. That's 4:1:1 DV color and the DVX's propensity for hot reds. It's especially exacerbated against green, but because it's so hot, it's apparent against anything that's not as hot.

Well, you need to cool it off with respect to the rest of the footage.

You can do that by lowering your chroma in camera -- but in this still, it looks like the whole image is kind of dark. If the rest of the image was brighter, there wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue.

Don't know what NLE you're using, but in Vegas I would isolate the area with the secondary color corrector and drop the saturation until it's about 85 on the vectorscope. A bit of chroma blur might also help. There is a free app for Vegas called av6cc (?) that allows you t drop the level of colors individually. VERY useful tool for this type of situation.
Hope this helps.
