its a fisheye lens by schnieder/century optics. the ding is very small but shows up in darker shots and with any sun hitting the lens. The lens cost $470, hoping to fix it for much less, where should I start, any idea if a repair is possible and how much would it cost? thanks everyone,

Luke

I wonder if a multi-coated UV filter will help in the sun. Probably not, but perhaps it's worth trying at a store.

This is the fisheye in question.

the problem is that it doesn't come with a thread for adding filters. I don't currently have a matte box but would probably consider it if I ever use an unprotected lens again. Its a .3x fisheye though, so I'm sure the matte box would show.

I've contacted Century Optics to see what can be done, if any gives a poo, i'll post what I learn.

A while ago I called Century about a similar problem, just 10 years of use of a .7 adapter with minute swirls from continued use. I asked if they could re-polish the lens but they happened to have an unmounted replacement lens that they sold me at a price quite below the cost of a new complete adapter. Pretty good customer service.
