This happened to me once when I bought an xl2. Dude thought he got away smooth until I showed up at the Mail Boxes etc. p.o. box he was using in LA. Damn staight my brother and I hopped a plane for that $3100! I was working at an ISP at the time and tracked his IP to an apartment where a bunch of these pussies were running scams out of. I had a friend of mine overnight another package to him which was forwarded to the p.o. box by the usps. He shows up like clock work orange, and the clerk at the store pointed him out. I don't suggest going about it like this but I took that money out his ass and got my cash. I got hip to those schemes real quick. I even had a guy try to set up a fake escrow site!

Contact the local police in his city as well as charge him with mail fraud which is a federal offense.

Unfortunatly that would only apply to an item shipped via USPS which is a federal carrier. FedEX, UPS, DHL, etc. are private companies so tampering with their mail is not considered a federal offense.

The package should have the exact weight of the item when it was shipped for postage, you might put the case back in the package and take it to a FedEx station and have them check the weight. If it matches then it would prove that the item was shipped without the card. Although something small like a P2 card doesn't weigh a whole lot but it might be worth a shot.

I have also had a problem with this user. CHeck out a thread I posted asking: was I ripped on this brevis? He sent me a Brevis that was broken beyond repair and claimed that it was FedEx's fault. I got about $225 back from him for the purposes of fixing the unit but after sending the Brevis back to Cinevate it turned out that it was irreparable. When I and Cinevate tried contacting him again with this development he never got back to us. I've given up trying to get my money back from him, but I willl look around for his contact info and PM it to you if you need it.

Edit: BTW. The entire modus operandi you are describing fits almost exactly with what I went through with him.

find him and take your money, and then kick him in the junkies :)

wow now it looks that he has been scamming more than a few people on here, this is crazy, where does he live? anyone have a cellphone number for him? thats all I need to track someone down

Sucks! maybe there should be like a ranking system where if someone sells something and it goes smooth they get a rating of some sort ala ebay. That way people would know what they're getting into before making a purchase.

I agree. But Ebay is a mess now.
They have changed it to suit the buyer (somewhat). A buyer can give you a bad rating for any reason without fear of reprisal from the seller. And, you can no longer see the negative feedbacks.

kladkym, a seller can leave bad feedback, I just sold a p2 card, I left pos feedback, but i had the option to leave negative.

I think fredmiranda.com has a good feedback system in place, dunno if would be hard to implement it here though...

well, first of all I think we need a real name policy. As well as maybe register our real address & contact tel number in order to trade in the marketplace section. Then a voluntary feedback system would be nice.

I think there should be some type of registration system as well. I think sellers should also need to submit a photo ID as part of the registration process. It really shouldn't be very hard to code. Maybe even come with additional schema for verification purposes.

I'd be willing to help write the code for it.

I am a moderator on skateperception forums and there has been a lot of recent scamming going on. There's already a 100 post count requirement to post in the "classifieds" section, but that doesn't seem to be stopping some people. I've done 3-4 deals on here with very good results and I don't even have above 100 posts. So it's hard to say if a post count requirement can really help.

Scanned photo ID is just asking for identity theft...

Wht I usually do is call the person that i am doing business with. There is a lot you can somewhat tell (sincerity, honesty ...etc) just by talking with someone on the phone. When I am selling something substantial, I also provide my contact number and automatically invite potential buyers to give me a call.

I also had very suspicious dealings with gonzoish79. I set up a deal to buy an 8gb card from Ismael Gonzalez in person, and since he said he lived about 80 miles away from me, we agreed to meet halfway. I gave him my cell number, but he wrote back only saying to meet him at his gym at a certain time. I wrote back asking how I'd find him out of a crowd after driving 40 miles, to which I never heard a response. Never bothered going out to the meet, as it sounded sketchy.

that dude is probably watching every post on this thread and dumping p2 contents to his computer from the card he never sent

thats really lame people do stuff like that.... esp when its dealing with what someone does for there lively hood

hopefully you are able to get by without it till you get your money back

A new registration that effects everyone based upon the actions of one individual?
Please, let's not go there. 99% of the users here are decent people. No need to penalize everyone based upon the actions of one or a few.
Knowledge and awareness is the key, not new restrictions.
--Check to see how long the user has been around.
--Read their old posts to get a feel of where they are coming from.
--Contact by phone if possible.
--If things go fraudulent, get the authorities involved and get the word out.

Wow didn't know that, it's been a while. :) Well then I'd say maybe 200 - 300 posts, check his history (posts) and get a feel for who you're dealing with.

Maybe the site can issue a preferred selling logo of some sort to who is fully registered ?

Now I know all of this is pretty easy to lie about, but the more the better. Sometimes they'll get frustrated and maybe just give up trying to get in.

I never buy anything online unless I'm willing to physically travel to the seller's home to get what's mine. I've never had to do it, but I'm more than willing to get what's owed me.
