Help Salvaging MXF Files from FS-100

I've gotten myself into a fix. I shot about 60G of material for a documentary shoot on an HVX 200 on a FS-100. Sleep deprived, I accidently hit the format button on the firestore, instead of "organize for P2". All was lost I thought, then a friend of mine used a FAT 32 file recovery program and was able to recover about 156 Gigs of MXF files. Many of these are likely from previous formats. I have found the most recent partition and have figured out how to create a Contents folder. Problem is he wasn't able to recover any of the XML files. Is all lost or is there any way of recovering video from MXF files without the corresponding XML video data? Are there any programs that can reconstitute MXF files without the XML? I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice. Josh

The Batch Converter included with the Serious Magic/Adobe DVCProHD Decoder will take MXF files and output AVI or QT containers. There's a free trial available, I suggest you download it and see if it does the trick.

P2 Log also has a reputation for accepting files that FCP chokes on.

Actually, in my studio, P2 Log chokes as much as FCP. Apple needs to fix the P2 driver. The problem effects all P2 apps on the Mac.

THank you for your suggestion about the DVCPro HD Decoder. It took me a while to get access to a PC, but I was able to recover much of the video. Unfortunately, much of the audio was either missing or is playing at a fast speed. Do you think that this is just a side effect of the format recovery or am I doing something wrong in DVCProHD Encoder? I simply put all of my MXF files - audio and video -inside the batch convertor. THe footage was shot in DVCPRO 50 so there are four audio MXF files for every video file.

Many thanks,

Josh

it's a bug (in DV Rack).

What happens when you place the audio files on the timeline and slow them down--are they then usable?

It not actually a bug in DV Rack (the video in question didn't even come from DV Rack).

There is a bug in the Batch Converter that affects some footage, and Serious Magic has been testing a fix for this. I would contact them tomorrow morning and see if they can help you.

Glad you got your video back!
Time to bust some animation type audio insertion! re record the audio in a studio and lay it on the video! you can add detail on top of the clip too.
Thats what I would do!
