GH3 Help please. External monitor gets no signal from GH3...

I rented a monitor today that I plan to use tomorrow. It's the Marshall V-LCD50. I have used this monitor before on the Canon 60D with no problems. I have also used another external monitor before on the GH3, no problems.

This Marshall keeps giving me a blue screen with 'no signal', whatever I do. I have done the following:

- Tried 3 different HDMI cables.
- Tried to connect the GH3 to my TV and my PC monitor, both worked fine immediatly.
- Tried lower framerate modes and lower bitrate modes.
- On and off, fiddeling with the cable.
- Changed 'output' on the GH3 from NTSC to PAL.

No luck until now. The rental company is now closed and I will be on the road tomorrow before it opens. Any suggestions? Am I missing something futile? Or might the input of the monitor be broken?

Thanks all.

There's a setting on the GH2 that needs to be tweaked to get the HDMI port to run a monitor.
The one I just saw in the .pdf manual for the GH2 is under:

HDMI Mode: [AUTO]:
The output resolution is automatically set based on the
information from the connected TV.

If I don't have mine set to AUTO my Lilliput won't work.

It might be the same in the GH3 and there might also be other menu settings for HDMI out.

Thanks Steve. Tried it but didn't work also.
I also just connected the monitor on my PC's graphics card with the HDMI cable. No signal.
I guess the monitor's input is broken ... :(

Don't have the GH2's battery charged so I'm going off the GH3's menu, but did you try turning VIERA Link off & under Output set HDMI Mode to Auto?

With my SmallHD DP4, the monitor won't get a signal if the wrong device is turned on first.
Can't remember which!

I'm having the same issue. Had my GH3 connected to SmallHD DP4 with no problem. Now connecting GH3 to new Panasonic TV and I can't get any signal out of the camera. What's going on?

Update:

Just took the monitor back to the rental company. Said it didn't work on my GH3 and asked if he could connect it to a 5D to try it. The monitor immediately worked... He also tried it on a C100, worked...

No I don't understand it anymore. So my TV and my PC monitor worked on the GH3, but not this Marshall field monitor. It worked fine however with 2 other camera's.

What could it be?

I know that my SmallHD DP4 supports 1080p50 (and 60) but that many other monitors do not.

Are you shooting at 50 or 60p? Does the GH3 output 50/60p via HDMI. If the answer to both of those questions is Yes, it could be that the monitor does not support the frame rate. I know when I was looking for an EVF, the Zacuto did not support 50p. This could be the case with the Marshall also.

Thanks but I tried changing the framerate to 24p and the rebooting both the camera and the monitor. No luck still.

BTW, I wrote earlier that I was having similar issues. DP4 working fine but Panasonic TV wouldn't get the signal. Turns out that if I held the miniHDMI cable in a certain way the signal wouldn't get through to the TV. The DP4 wasn't sensitive to this issue and worked either way. Who knows?

I don't have that monitor anymore but I just checked my GH3's settings and Viera link was turned on (by default). HDMI output was already set to default.

Could that Viera link 'on' be the problem?

If you read the article it says that if Viera Link is set to on, it forces the HDMI output to 50/60p even if you are recording in 24p. Many monitors do not support 50 or 60p so this could be where the issue was.

I just recieved a chinese evf, hdmi output worked at the beginning (with deafault gh3 settings), but now (no idea why) evf does not get the signal. Tried switching on/off both devices, playing with output settings (auto hdmi, vierra link off, etc) - nothing helps. Strangely enough when i get into playback menu - monitor finds the signal.

No idea if this is a gh3 issue or chinese evf, but i will likely return it cos i dont want to have anything flimsy with a huge potential to not work on set...

Hitting the Playback button did it for me!

I just got a Neway 7" lcd monitor and it suddenly wasn't working this morning. No rhyme or reason. No settings changed. Nothing else worked until I hit the play button.

Go figure. At least I know the solution now!
