HELP p2 IMport crashing my fcp 5.1.4

Hi!
Got a g5 Mac osx 10.4.9 with FCP 5.1.4. Ive never had problems importing P2 into my systems before. Today im trying to import P2 files from a Firewire drive and FCP is crashing without explanation every time.
I did the usual field workflow...shoot, dump card through PCMIA slot on Mac through to an external drive. I have all CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt info in the dump folders.
Im out of ideas... I reinstalled the P2 Driver for Mac, restarted my system etc.

Ill go into FCP/IMPORT/PANASONIC p2 and get to the P2 Pane. Ill pull up my path to the DUMP folders i created in the field. Ill select the folder
, then click OPEN. FCP pauses for about 2 seconds and shuts down without any error message. Then I get the FCP has shut down would you like to report... window.

HELP!!!! MAJOR DEALINE HERE!!! ANY IDEAS!!!
 
run 'console' from the applications/utilities folder then reproduce the error. If the console says it has written final cut pro crash.log, press the 'logs' button, and find the appropriate log somewhere in the ~libraries (~library?) tab, then report the result here.
 
Do the usual, trash your prefs.
Try copying one of the folders to your internal drive and
import from there.

thanks for the replies. I seem to be getting around it by doing the following:

Im putting P2 cards back into the PCMIA slot on my Mac. Then sliding the CONTENTS and LASTCLIPS.txts files back from my Firewire Field Transfer drive. Then I Import P2 through FCP directly from P2 cards. It seems to be working (20 more gigs to go though...fingers crossed). So for some reason, the P2 from firewire drive and from any number of internal SATA drives wasnt working. But transferring back to P2 cards and have FCP convert to QT from there is working... although now i lose the ability to archive safely as P2 files... and it'll still drive me nuts because I cant figure out the glitch.
Either way...thanks for the replies. Add 100 more grey hairs, and a few more wrinkles to my resume!
