Help on re-creating this Lady Gaga music video effect.

Hi guys!

My client is requesting a music video cut similar to a Lady Gaga Style. I have Final Cut Pro 7 and can't seem to find an effect or plugin to achieve the desired results which I have attached.

It seems like a fairly simple matte or mask but I can't for the life of me work it out in FCP. The vision in the virticle slides plays at the same time as the main window, it's just different 'views' of the main clip.
Any FCP ninjas care to give me a quick step by step on how to do this?

Also- Seeking some classy 'light flare' plugins or FX. If anyone knows of any free light plugins or good ones to purchase, that would be super!

Thanking the ninjas in advance :)

This isn't a plug-in. It's layers of the same clip, and the most basic way to work this in is a combination of crop, scale, and center in the motion tab. You can also create mattes for each layer in PhotoShop and adapt something like THIS.

As for light leaks and other effects, you might want to check out Luca's VFX.

Thanks C2V for making reference to my tutorial on diagonal split screen. And you are absolutely right when it comes to achieving this effect. It can be achieved using the motion tab or mattes in Photoshop. You can also uses a Bars Wipe generator and create travel matte effect with it as well. It sounds like a got one of those clients who saw a cool effect on a video and want you to replicate it. Those clients are annoying. Read this article if you have ever had these issues: http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/art...from-a-client-when-youre-in-an-fcp-edit-suite

& Smoothmotion - once you start talking about lighting effects and anything beyond very basic stuff - it's time for after effects - FCP isn't much for masking and doing effects (man, just a maskable adjustment layer would be nice!). You'll never look back.

Simple and quick in FCP with the Crop tool, adjusting position and scale.
Motion would give you more options, and may be even faster to do.

Apple Motion template "Glass Panes-Transition" can also be a quick and nasty way of a doing similar effect.

Shot with the Canon 5D (as everyone does these days). Wasn't meant to be such a big deal, just a fool around video, but for what it's worth I think it came out quite good.
