(help me) Raw footage vs. CC edited

Ok. NLE=Non-Linear Editing System (aka Final Cut, Avid, Premiere, etc.)

Ok... Check all of your settings in your Final Cut. Make sure it's set to 24P, etc. Also, if that doesn't work, change your master ped to -10 and go shoot some tests, see how it comes out.

NLE ? (I wish I knew what that was lol) well I use Final Cut Pro and Im using a
basic firewire cable (I get the feeling thats not the answer to your question )

i think shooting with a high pedestal is a wonderful idea. more options in post. what exactly is your problem with the contrast of the footage? if you want the image your getting after cc to come straight out of your camera, definitely lower the pedestal or shoot with b-press gamma setting. that said, i think you're doing it the best way already.

I must agree that shooting at Master Ped 0 has been perfect for me, but in this case, the footage looks WAY too flat... I mean, it looks like there's a mask of white opacity over the image, that's not good.

Quick question about shooting with a high master ped. If you want to increase the contrast in post, isn't that going to increase the amount of grain in the footage. With a high ped the difference between the darkest and the brightest is less, and wouldn't the amount of information recorded in between shades be the same reguardless of ped?

Don't know if that made sense, but this is an analogy. If you've got a rubber band with writting on it and take a picture of it you get a general sense what's written on it. If you stretch the rubberband to get just the part you want, then you get a lot more detailed information from a picture.

Alright, it's not that noticable. For an extreme of what I'm talking about just to give you an idea...

Boost the contrast of an image to the max. You notice a large increase in the grain in the picture. Small amounts aren't that noticable.
