Yes that's kinda normal with 7D too. Maybe 5D, but I'm not sure.

Even if you're at ISO 100/200/400, under-exposed parts of the frame will look swimmy/dancey/muddy. The only way I've found to get over it is to have abit of contrast in my settings, and expose slightly more, and then crush the shadows in post :|

It's possible your camera may exhibit noise more than other 550Ds. My camera had alot more uneven noise and vertical banding than other cameras so much I sent it back to canon to repair.

What settings [ISO, aperture, Highlight tone priority etc] did you use, and can you upload a short original clip on sendspace.com or something?

Yeah! I get that exact same look too. Kinda goes away if I over-expose though. Is it normal for everyone else?

I still don't know what everyone means when they say "swimming". I wouldn't use that to describe what I'm seeing but I am getting the same kind of noise. Thought this was normal?

Seems to be normal. But you'd think for something like ISO100, it should just look clean, defined, and dark. Rather than a muted ISO 1600-grain like, right?

True, I'd like to see what others have to say about this. Cuz even when shooting in daylight at 100ISO, I still notice some noise in the shadows.

Hey guys, I bought a T2i too about 2 months ago, and right away I noticed how 'unprofessional' the quality is to the filmmaking aspect of it (and even the photographic aspect, if you ask me.) You basically have to put you T2i on a very specific setting to get it to do anything:

Video mode:
Sharpness = All the way down.
Contrast = All the way down.
Saturation = -2
Color Tone = 0 (default)
Highlight Tone Priority = I still don't know
Memory Card = I do think it makes a bit of difference, a Class 6 or higher.
White Balance = Does not matter.
ISO = Don't go over 200.
Apeture = If you're struggling for light, make sure it's at 3.5 before you raise the ISO or lower the shutter (50 shutter is better for video motion than 30, so I've heard).

Basically, though, I've always felt that for the price and professional 'audience' of the T2i, that the camera must be messed up if people have to use such specific settings to get anything professional out of it. I've seen 'newbie' videos where they just pulled it out of the box and slung it around, saying in the caption "I don't know anything about this video, it's just on auto!" and I've seen great results from that. Yet I've turned around and have seen professionally set videos, by me and by others (like yours) that look like the ISO is on 400/ the colors dance/ect ect.

It just looks a 'bit' too much for what I'd expect these camera's to do, I want to claim that there's a whole line of T2i's out there at the moment that are slightly defective/too much noise going on at ISO levels. My camera isn't even USEABLE at anything higher than 800, either on photos or video, because tons of lines show up.

I just want to ask, has anyone ever noticed any differences between the T2i and the 550D (same camera, different region) in terms of quality?
