Hi guys, i went to Rome last weekend, and took my 7D with 24-105L Lens. I shooted some stuff at the Colosseum and the result was full of artifacts, is this normal or do i have a problem with my camera or lens ? thank u

Here is the footage.

Thx Samuel, but i think if u look at my footage in hd, u will see that there is a huge amount of aliasing+moire. I had that in some previous shoots but never this much, and it's the first time i am using this lens.

Looks normal for the 7D sensor in a building made almost entirely of brick. Unfortunately thats how it looks with that much fine detail. In addition, any movement (handheld, tilts, pans) will increase the visibility of the problem.

As I said: Rome = moire hell

You can try to reduce it by shooting with sharpness=0 and a flat profile, but, on a 7D, it's not going to go away unless you get the VAF filter.

Yours wasn't as bad, moire-wise as the OP's. So I do wonder what was going on with his? Could you have been using a softer lens, thus making the lens into a sort of low-pass filter?

Mine was shot completely with the kit lens, I left many shots out of the edit because of the awful moire, and I rescaled it to 720p before uploading. All those would help (most, the second one). But I certainly recall it as a moire nightmare.

For Video you need Batteries, Cards, and very very important VAF Filter, even High end big chip video cameras have this. Also shot Cinestyle Technicolor it helps a lot, don't even try any other Home made flat style
