help importing DVX100b, Mac based, iMovie?

In order to have an extra archived copy of footage, I have been importing my footage using a cheap dv camera, going to iMovie, then mailing my tapes off to friend who edits in FCP. Recently upgraded iPhoto and iMovie got upgraded too. Now, iMovie will not import my video. Help formums says iMovie does not like 24p. It is accepts a few frames and kicks it out (stops import). W/O buying FCP myself, is there any way I can import into my Mac for a copy on my system before shipping out original tapes to my editor?
Just getting started...

Well, considering that 24p is still laid to tape in the DVX as 29.97, don't know why iMovie is freaking out.

You might check out iDive. Google it. It's made for importing, organizing, and cataloging DV footage.

Sweet! That is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks so much for not ridiculing me about the iMovie thing. I plan to buy new system and FCP before end of year. Have a good one.

No prob. Ridicule isn't really what these forums are about. Well... not what they should be about.

Another advantage to iDive is that iMovie's logging is very limited, and capture breaks the video up automatically. Use iDive like FCP's logging and batch capturing.
