Help for a newbie with PP2

Greetings

Can someone give me a quick breakdown on what applications/SW would be needed to edit (P2 data from an HVX) using PP2? My PC has a LOT of horse-power so I'm NOT worried about that issue. If there is a tutorial or master thread on this subject.

I gather Raylight or Cineform Aspect HD would be needed to edit P2 material with PP2/3. ??? Not trying to start a war but are there any general comparisons between these two products. My primary (nearly all actualy) interest will be in 60P 720 capture.

Thanks much and sorry for the probably repeated question here

**** Looks like I might pick up an HVX this weekend so I just want to know what I'm getting into. I'm using a HDV cam right now........... :zombie_smiley:

PPro 2 doesn't recognize .mxf files, so

PPro 2 doesn't recognize .mxf files, so

yes, you need some SW to convert.

I use Cineform's Aspect HD, which provides plugins for PPro 2, and it's standalone pgm HDLink.

I don't have Raylight, but it is also popular, and as I understand it, is about 1/2 the price of Aspect HD. (Barry Green often suggests Raylight).

Once my footage has been shot, and it's available to my computer on either a hard drive or via a USB connection directly to the cam, I then run HDLink to convert before I drag the clips into PPro 2.

Note that converting offers options that you must chech/set, e.g. source, destination, and considerations for your footage, before taking the last step of convereting.

After conversion, I end up with an .AVI and a .WAV. The .AVI is both audio and video, while the .WAV is audio only. Thus far, I've used .WAVs only a few times, but it has come in handy.

Before you convert, build some kind of backup step into your process so you don't lose the footage, i.e. I copy all .MXF files to a folder named "Unconverted MXF", then I convert. That way, if something does go wrong, I'm protected, and can re-convert if necessary. When doing that, be sure to copy ALL files and folders from the P2 card(s).

Good luck.

There's no converting process in Raylight. You can just completely skip that step.

Drag the MXF into the PPro project and start cutting.
