I'm looking to purchase a used XH A1 and I'd like to find the total hours
it's been used.

Can someone give me a quick walk-through of the menu?

Thanks.

The heads will run for well over 1000hrs in record/play and that's many many tapes. So you want to know has the camera been looked after, has it been in the shop and why.

But there's other ways to tell what sort of life the camera has had and if you can talk to the seller even better.

Look for the condition of the body, knocks dents etc. Does it have the new Canon handstrap? Does it have wear around it, dirty eyepiece hood, marks on the lens hood. It easily shows scratches.

Does the seller still have the original carton and sales docket (I do, preparing for resale) Is he/she offering accessories, how many spare batteries? What condition are they in. Are there any 77mm filters, if they're expensive B+W versus cheap ones, gives you an idea of what the owner thought of his A1 and he probably took care of it.
HTH Cheers.
