Help! D5000 frame dropping.

I can verify this by stepping through on the time line that my D5000 is dropping frames. Anyone else have this problem? I use an SD HC card.

It looks like it's dropping a frame after the first 18 seconds and then about the same after that...is it possible my card is messed up? My camera is new and it didn't do this right after I got it...only recently.

it's normal unfortunately, same on the d90. i didn't think it existed myself even after shooting 50 hours for my feature, but when i looked it was there for sure. the fact that i didn't notice it before looking for it was quite comforting though. oh, and the sync holds up, i've checked, in fact this could be the very reason it does, because of differences in timing.

yes, it's completely predictable. i cut way more often than every 18 seconds plus the video is already jerky as hell so who'd ever notice? ;-)

Thanks for your time Matthias...really appreciate it. Can't believe I never saw it. I want to produce short narratives with this thing but now I'm not sure. Did it bother you when you were doing/editing your feature film?

wow
well i have to check this, never really paid attention to this, but if its the case, it may be another reason to switch to canon :(

nvm i checked, i dont have frame drop around 18sec at least
are you sure its around 18sec ?

Yeah, like Matthias said, very predictable. Once I hit record, between 17 and 18 seconds, then again around 34/36 seconds. Maybe we should post clips.

bang, you do, promise. it's not really a full frame drop as far as i can tell, rather a slight jump in the motion, as if the camera senses that it's behind and needs to catch up, which is probably what's happening since sync is maintained. no it never bothered me actually. i think there's two places in my 84 minute film where it's at all noticeable, and only if you're paying close attention. it pisses me off that they released a camera with such a stupid fault though.

are you guyz using kit lenses ?
i mean, i just saw in one of my footage this lame problem, but it was on the 18-105 VR lens.
it seems to me its not the same on my other footages with manual lens.

im gona do some tests later but as far as i can see, its not happening with my manual lens
i may be wrong and jsut cant see the problem as its all shaky :)

interesting, but i was talking about external sync, the internal audio could be kept in sync even without a perfect frame rate.

The frame dropping and the jello (even when present during static shots) are the two main things I liked about the D90's charm =]

The 50hz flickering killed it for me though.

how many months is the D90 out now ?
and no words for a firmware yet, just rumors, but still nothing.
and they released the D5000 after with the same exact problems, and still no words.
who said they release bug fix but no new feature.
really think nikon should wake up

this is not a bug but a feature due to implementation, just like the stairstepping. a bug is a mistake, if something is there on purpose it's not a bug even if users consider it a problem.

then you could have given up a long time ago if you had just remembered what a bug is and why bug fixes are released. ;-)
