Help creating an effect

Hey,

I am currently using Sony Vegas 9.0 to make a university video for my presentation. I plan to have numerous quotes in the video (in text) which contradict each other, and have a scribble going over them and rubbing the quote out so the other can be replaced by it. An example of the desired effect can be seen here at the start of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E3oIbO0AWE

I have tried desperately to find tutorials or advice on how to create this effect, but I am failing badly. Luckily I still have about 2/3 weeks before my video is due for completion, but I really need to overcome this problem so I can continue with the other parts. Any advice on how I can achieve this effect would be mega appreciated.

Martin.

PS. Sorry if the link upsets anybody. It's the only example I can find that shows the effect I want.

An effect like that is easy to do in Adobe After Effects. Do you have access to that?

Even if you don't have After Effects, if you made an image of an up and down scribble like that and just used a wipe from left to right you might get away with it, if it was fast enough.

Hi,

Yes, i do have access to After Effects. I have never used it though, so I would be just as stuck on that program. :embarasse

Yes, you can keyframe masks in Vegas, it's very useful for any multi-layer stuff so worth learning.

looking at that youtube video, I think that's how they did it (regardless of whether they used Vegas) - a burry-edged mask is moving across a big picture of a scribble, while another mask moves across each separate text layer. Getting the timing right will be essential to make the effect look like a 'real' scribble.
